The Cardiology and Orthopaedic Line of Service is charged with improving the cardiac and orthopaedic care experience for UnitedHealth Group members by developing strategies to lower costs, raise quality and improve service. These goals are being achieved with programs that reinforce the practice of evidence-based medicine and encourage the use of the most clinically effective and cost effective treatment options available. The programs require integration across the spectrum of UHG's businesses, functions and operational areas.


 


As an Associate Director of Analytics within the Cardiology and Orthopaedic line of business, you will support the design and implementation of better programs to serve our members who are afflicted with cardiovascular disease.


 


In this role, you will report to the Director of Cardiology and Orthopaedic Networks and be responsible for cardiology and orthopaedic trend analysis and management of data sourcing and extraction with technology resources and external vendors. You will also work with the team to develop program metrics and ad hoc production reporting.


 


Primary Responsibilities:



  • Coordination and sharing of best practices with analytic teams from other lines of service, as well as Premium Designation Team, Healthcare Economics, and other relevant areas within UHG

  • Analyzing Cardiology and Orthopaedic spend and utilization to identify key trend drivers

  • Performing data pulls from all platforms (UHG E&I, M&R, C&S and acquired entities)

  • Working with existing tools like Episode Treatment Groups and modifying them for more detailed analysis using clinical data, EMR, laboratory, and biometric data sources

  • Working with the Cardiology and Orthopedic teams to create novel ways of capturing clinical information through claims systems and/or from medical records

  • Developing and maintaining project plans including written specifications of tasks, expected timelines, and deliverables consistent with the team deadlines

  • Communicating data on external studies, findings, and analysis in written, oral and graphic form to executive staff, clinical staff and scientific advisory board members

They collect and interpret research and analyses of markets, trends, competitors, products and services for use in operational business planning/decisions and strategic planning/decisions. May direct research grants, research projects and involvement with academic studies.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Masters in epidemiology, statistics, healthcare economics, medical informatics health services research, and/or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years experience in a health care setting, preferably in a managed healthcare company

  • 5+ applying statistical method and models to health care data (i.e. analytical skills and knowledge of risk adjustment, grouping methodologies, and statistical analysis)

  • 3+ years experience creating presentations, presenting business plans and findings and interacting at Executive Level Management team

  • Strong SQL knowledge, or experience with SAS (preferred)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by publications and/or presentations

  • Strong understanding of clinical management activities of a large managed healthcare organization

Preferred Qualifications:



  • PhD

  • Experience in a managed healthcare company

  • Experience with SAS

  • Programming experience with Visual Studio and/or Visual Basic

  • Experience with database construction, maintenance, and governance
