Job Summary

The Enterprise Network Planning Manager - Planning Services is responsible for providing strategic direction for the Enterprise Network Planning programs. He/She oversees and assists in the design of global enterprise transportation networks and processes for Air, Ocean, and Surface planning.

The ideal candidate establishes enterprise processes for strategic network planning and integration to maintain consistent planning approaches. In addition, he/she also establishes department business plans to support overall UPS business plans. Acts as liaison between UPS functional groups to cross-functionally coordinate key issues in transportation network plans and prioritizes network planning programs based on UPS strategic plans to properly allocate project resources. This position may manage others within the department.

Other Duties

  • Ensures processes are documented in proper formation to share, improve, and duplicate process information over time.
  • Communicates process changes to UPS stakeholders to maintain a consistent, global understanding of plan changes within the organization.
  • Defines and develops required planner toolsets to strategically align data with processes.
  • Reviews and evaluates planning activities to provide guidance in meeting project timelines, objectives, and goals.
  • Provides strategic leadership for planning teams to effectively manage network programs and maintain spheres of influence with UPS stakeholders.
  • Prepares training materials and conducts training of network planners to develop standardized planning methodologies and practices.
  • Finalizes data sets for optimization tools to deliver complete sets of data optimization tools.
  • Communicates data to team and UPS stakeholders to ensure business units are met.
  • Identifies and resolves program road blocks to limit significant project delays and meet program timelines.

  • Project Management: Develops project management plans and leads the implementation for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately.
  • Project Planning: Develops and executes project management plans for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately.
  • Risk Management: Identifies and evaluates risks; determines and applies appropriate risk treatment(s).
  • Supply Chain Management: Demonstrates a detailed understanding of supply chain concepts; makes recommendations for changes to solve supply chain problems.
  • Technology Knowledge: Leverages technological knowledge to achieve business objectives; resolves technological issues impeding work; adapts technological information, facts, or data to varying situations or groups; recommends changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices.
  • Work Methods, Processes, Flows Design: Identifies root causes of recurrent workflow failures; estimates time and cost to implement new work methods, processes, and flows; recommends design changes to basic work methods, processes, and flows.

Minimum Qualifiers

  • Bachelor's Degree (Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Management, Industrial Engineering or Transportation) -  Required
  • Master's Degree (Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Management, Industrial Engineering or Transportation) - Preferred
  • Experience providing strategic direction for the network planning programs - Preferred
  • Experience recommending changes to technological approach based upon knowledge of trends and best practices - Preferred
  • Experience demonstrating a detailed understanding of supply chain concepts so to make recommendations for changes - Preferred
