SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of machine shop labor, such as cylinder heads, valve
grinding, seat work, engine block boring and milling operations. Uses
precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, jigs fixtures and gauges to check work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Disassembles and assembles heads and engines; performs cleaning
operations on engine parts, valve grinding, boring engine blocks,
reconditioning connecting rods, crankshaft grinding, turning brake drums, rotors, surface flywheels, removing and replacing u-joints, axle bearings and other repair work.
-Completes and prices machine shop work order for billing purposes.
-Performs machining operations manufacturer tolerance.
-Communicates with store associates and customers as necessary to review machining operation costs and limitations and turn around time.
Ensures that all shop work is billed out or paid befor before it leaves the
shop.
Observes the company's work and safety rules.
Ensures hazardous waste is properly stored and disposed of per OSHA and
EPA regulations.
Participates in and performs safety training including MSDS, OSHA, Lock
Out, etc.
Ensures shop is clean, aisle ways are open, and castings are stored in
proper staging area.

Required Skills
Experience working in a machine shop environment.
Experience with the tools required for mechanical inspection (calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, rules).
Requires precision machining skills, mechanical and mathematical aptitude and a highly technical understanding of internal combustion engine components.
Knowledge of quality and inspection requirements, manufacturing processes, and measurement techniques.
Requires understanding of allowed tolerances between metal surfaces and knowledge of machine tooling and measurements.
Requires knowledge of safe work habits and safety training.
