Experienced Commercial HVAC & Refrigeration Service Manager

 

Jet's Pizza, Nashville's best pizza (as voted 6 years in a row in the Tennessean's Toast of Music City), is looking for a full-time HVAC & refrigeration manager to perform preventative maintenance and equipment repair for the approximately 25 Middle-Tennessee Jet's Pizza locations.  The service manager will work closely with the owners and location managers to ensure that the stores are maintained to the highest quality standards.  This position requires a significant amount of autonomy.  The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter who is comfortable setting his own schedule and priorities.

 

Preventative Maintenance

 

The service manager shall perform preventative maintenance (PM) at each store location in a round robin manner ensuring that each location is serviced at a minimum of once per quarter.  PM includes:

 

- Changing filters

- Inspecting and replacing belts and adjusting belt tension

- Checking fan motors and blades for proper alignment and operation

- Cleaning and removing scale from condenser coils on HVAC & refrigeration equipment

- Inspecting and replacing gaskets as necessary

- Checking hinges, closers, handles, casters and legs on all kitchen equipment

- Checking thermostats and temperature gauges for calibration

- Maintaining Hoshizaki ice machines

- Maintaining Middleby Marshall convection conveyor ovens

- Maintaining Hobart mixers

- Lubricating moving parts on all equipment

- Tightening electrical connections, mounting bolts, fittings, damper sections, etc.

- Addressing general maintenance issues and typical handyman duties as necessary (including light electrical, plumbing, ceramic & floor tile, door hardware, etc.)

- Coordinate activities of third-party service providers (oven/hood cleaners, specialized repair companies, etc.)

- Purchasing parts, materials and equipment as necessary

 

Equipment Repair

 

The service manager shall be responsible for repairing all HVAC equipment, refrigeration equipment, ovens, miscellaneous restaurant equipment and building hardware.  The service manager should possess the skills necessary to perform repairs on most HVAC and restaurant equipment.  The service manager will be sent to Middleby Marshall school in Chicago to become a certified warranty repair technician on Middleby Marshall ovens.  While the majority of the required work will be between the hours of 8am and 5pm, there will be occasional evening and weekend work required for emergencies or tasks that cannot be completed during operating hours.

 

Reporting, Administrative & Management Responsibilities

 

Given the high level of autonomy associated with this job, regular and thorough written and oral communication will be critical.  During the course of his duties, the service manager should be focused on reducing the overall cost of maintenance and performing necessary repairs at the restaurant locations.  He should be able to identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase operational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings. 

 

The service manager shall be part of the Jet's Pizza management team in that the general managers of the individual store locations will be accountable to the service manager for keeping their stores clean and in good repair (but otherwise the GM's have sole responsibility for the operational management of their stores).  It is the GM's responsibility to bring specific issues to service manager's attention and work with the service manager to schedule necessary repairs.  The service manager shall provide regular feedback to the owners regarding the cleanliness and overall condition of stores on a continual basis. 

 

During the course of employment, the service manager shall create a maintenance binder for each location.  The binder shall include PM schedules, tasks and history along with equipment manuals, contact information for third party service providers, etc.  As each Jet's location is a separate corporate entity, the service manager shall keep clear records of material expenses such that the correct location pays for its own materials.  The service manager shall prepare basic daily activity reports for the owners (location, start time, end time, tasks completed).

 

Physical Requirements:

 

The service manager should be able to move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces.  Ability to comfortably perform repetitive bending, twisting and lifting while executing service work. Move up and down stairs, service ramps and ladders.  Must be able to climb ladders up to roof tops with a maximum safety weight rating of 225 lbs.  Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing 70-100 pounds on a regular basis.  Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight.  Will need to be on feet most of the day.

 

Miscellaneous

 

- Must have own tools and reliable vehicle

- A clean driving record and valid driver's license are mandatory

- 45 to 50 hours per week required (depending on repair work load)

- Initiative and ingenuity -- must be able to troubleshoot equipment and work alone

- Strong mechanical aptitude

- Must be available for night/weekend call duty

- Basic computer skills (smartphone, email, Microsoft Word, very basic Microsoft Excel)

- High school graduate with additional technical training in HVAC

- Compensation will be commensurate with experience
