Position Summary
Department Manager
Department Managers are responsible for ensuring that associates provide exceptional customer service, while achieving sales goals. This includes ensuring customer satisfaction, driving sales, building sales skills and product knowledge. Effective Department Managers maximize productivity and profitability by balancing sales and expenses, identifying sales opportunities and setting customer service standards. They must demonstrate knowledge of the store's purpose and goals and have the skills to help associates achieve those goals.
The major responsibilities for this position include:
* Train, coach and observe associates using the basic S.A.L.E.S. process.
* Provide input into merchandising decisions to the store manager
* Resolve customer and employee complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner
* Lead associate team to accomplish store goals
* Ensure all call and pages are being answered promptly, courteously and effectively
* Possess good product knowledge as well as knowing store layout and location of products
* Be professional in appearance
* Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
* Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management
* Assist in receiving, check in, price changes, special orders and stocking of merchandise and maintaining back stock levels
* Assist in the training and development of peers
* Actively participate in daily huddle meetings
* Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards for entire store including warehouse and outdoor areas
* Participate in the processing of new shipments and help the team to keep the receiving and back stock area clean and organized
* Responsive of safety issues
* Conscious of shoplifting activity
* Aid customers in locating merchandising in store, on acehardware.com, as well as, processing special orders
* Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card
* Answer customers' questions and provide information on procedures and policies
* Operate forklift with proper training
* Forward any customer complaint that cannot be handled to management.
* Share ideas on any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to management


Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements for this position include:
* Education/Training: High School degree, some college preferred. Possess vast product knowledge of hardware related products such as plumbing, electrical, hardware, paint and lawn and garden.
* Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years retail experience
* Skills/Knowledge: Strong leadership and analytical skills. Background in plumbing, electrical, tools, paint and lawn and garden
* Excellent customer service skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations
* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
* Ability to lead and develop others
* Ability to handle multiple projects and task with a high attention to detail
* Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
* Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business
Physical Requirements
The minimum physical requirements for this position include:
* Ability to stand for an extended period of time
* Move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting and perform all functions as set forth
