The candidate must possess experience working in a chemical, biology or materials laboratory and have the ability to learn assignments quickly and work independently. The candidate must also have the ability to train and coach lower level laboratory technicians. In addition, this assignment requires a candidate that is detail oriented and possesses strong mathematics and scientific skills.
This is the senior technical level of work performing a variety of engineering support tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of an engineer or higher level technical employee. Specific duties depend on job assignments and will include performing advanced tests on soils and construction materials, and providing guidance and assistance to less experienced employees. Work conditions vary depending on assignments and are performed in the office, laboratory or field and may include inspection assignments with exposure to varying weather conditions and rough terrain and requirements for walking, standing, bending and lifting loads weighing up to 80 pounds and may also require working in close proximity with traffic on Maryland Highways . Employees may be required to work various shifts and on weekends. Employee may be required to travel and be available for work in any part of the State

Job Requirements

Five years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of
material testing, drafting, basic engineering computations, soils or rock drilling
and/or computer usage directly related to specific work assignments.
Employees in this classification who are required to perform Quality Assurance tests must possess certifications in any or all of the following areas: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, Metals, Pavement Markings, Aggregates, and/or Geotechnical.
