  • 21 years or older
  • CDL required.
  • HAZMAT and tanker endorsement preferred
  • CETP trained preferred
  • In states requiring examination, must successfully complete and pass all requirements before being assigned to this job.
  • Must possess Forklift Certification
  • Must have all application licenses as required by State and Federal Agencies
  • Must complete basic agronomy short course within 90 days of employment
  • Must work with an experienced Sr Applicator a minimum of three days before operating equipment without supervision.
  • GPS capable


Requires physical strength and dexterity to walk, stand, bend, climb, reach, stoop, twist and lift/carry 100 pounds. Vision, hearing and speech essential. Hand coordination to use computer. May require a valid drivers license. Job requires contact with hazardous materials and drive/travel and work in adverse weather conditions. Job Description:
PURPOSE OF POSITION FOR PETROLEUM OPERATOR/APPLICATOR: Sells, delivers, and services petroleum accounts and equipment. Spreads, loads and unloads fertilizer, lime and farm chemicals. Performs maintenance and makes repairs and adjustments and keeps fertilizer application equipment in good operating order. Performs duties of warehouseman trucker.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF PETROLEUM OPERATOR/APPLICATOR:

Petroleum Operator:
  1. Delivers petroleum product to customers.
  2. Solicits and sells petroleum and related products and services.
  3. Makes installation for new account or addition to present equipment or setup and adjustment to equipment and/or systems.
  4. Performs simple maintenance on trucks.
  5. Repairs and paints tanks and equipment. Provides appropriate information on loaned equipment, transfers, etc.
  6. Loads and unloads product.
  7. Maintains daily truck reports.
  8. Assists with inventory controls through adhering to established procedures and reports.
  9. Assists with taking physical inventories.
  10. Assists with maintaining a clean and well-presented plant.
  11. Collects accounts and assists in credit control.
  12. Adheres to Southern States Corporate Policies and Procedures.
  13. Attends schools and meetings as required.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.


Applicator:
  1. Spreads fertilizer, liquid nitrogen and lime.
  2. Applies farm chemicals using proper safety protective equipment.
  3. Loads, unloads and blends fertilizer as needed.
  4. Performs preventive maintenance and makes adjustments and/or repairs to fertilizer spreading equipment and fertilizer equipment. Calibrates equipment for proper application. Checks equipment for proper application and spread pattern and makes corrections as needed.
  5. Prepares proper truck reports and records, including truck maintenance records as required.
  6. Assists with inventory control through adhering to established procedure and reports.
  7. Plans or assists in planning of spreading schedule.
  8. May assist in taking physical inventory.
  9. Attends schools and meetings as requested.
  10. Adheres to Southern States No Tolerance Policy on Safety and Environment.
  11. Perform duties of warehouse trucker and other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  12. Responsible to ensure equipment is Growmaster certified.
