UnitedHealthcare Community & State is seeking a Healthcare Economics Consultant to support the segment's National Payment Integrity and Northeast Region health plan affordability agenda. The consultant will be an integral part of the Payment Integrity team setting targets, measuring performance and managing program costs/ROI. The position will also extract, analyze and interpret data to uncover medical cost trends in our Northeast Region. A successful consultant will work on a daily basis with others on the HCE team, collaborate extensively with our business and health plan partners, and must be comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Primary Responsibilities:



  • Research, retrieve, design and deliver organized medical cost trend analytics and identify root cause issues

  • Consolidate data and tell the story on the findings in an articulate and professional manner

  • Assist in making decisions of considerable impact and consequence involving healthcare expense trends

  • Design and manage models leveraged for Payment Integrity (PI) program planning and performance measurement; work directly with Payment Integrity leaders and support staff on initiative planning

  • Translate PI savings planning information into data format for financial forecasts and work with FP&A team on the same

  • Forecast company sister segment fees for PI services; interface directly with sister segment partners

  • Develop innovative approaches to achieve deliverables

  • Ad Hoc analysis

  • Work in a self-directed, non-prescribed format with less structured, more complex issues

  • Serve as a resource to others

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Health Administration or another technical related field from an accredited college or university

  • Advanced MS Excel skills: data analysis & report generation (formulas, calculations, pivot tables, charts, graphs, etc.)

  • 3+ years of experience with data analysis and working with large data sets; background of collecting data using different sources

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Healthcare economics or health insurance experience with knowledge of claims systems, benefits, etc.

  • Solid understanding and knowledge of medical claims data

  • Experience working in an Enterprise Data Warehouse environment

  • Experience working with MS Access
