POSITION SUMMARY:


Configure, Install, Service and maintain all last mile and customer premise equipment necessary for the delivery of Commercial Metro Ethernet, Metro Transport, PRI and POTS lines. This includes all equipment; both active and passive, between the core network and customer demark.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


- Test and validate all new circuits, hardware and connections for proper configuration and performance.

- Ensure all fibers, cables and other connections are properly tagged and identified and that these connections have the proper physical support such as fiber duct, spiral wrap and strand relief supports.

- Ensure all equipment is mounted in such a way as to ensure network reliability.

- Document all last mile and premise equipment alarm points are being properly monitored and circuit design records are complete and accurate. This includes both creating circuit design records when needed as well as ensuring they are updated for an as-built or service restoration changes.

- Assist with the installation, service and maintenance of core switches, routers, SONET transport, DWDM and other related equipment as necessary and directed.

- As part of an on-call/standby rotation, respond to after hours call-out for service restoration, troubleshooting, network testing and repair of all last mile and customer premise equipment necessary for the delivery of Commercial Metro Ethernet, Metro Transport, PRI, and POTS lines. Ensure the Commercial Customer Support Team is kept up to date on the progress of all repair and upgrade activities. Also assist Commercial Network Engineers in troubleshooting, testing and repair of all core switches, routers, SONET Transport, DWDM and other related equipment as necessary and directed.

- Participate in the creation and review of event Post Mortem documentation to ensure accurate and meaningful Post Mortems are created. Review all Post Mortem documents and implement procedures to minimize future service outages and shorten the duration.

- Maintain all spare stock for all last mile and customer premise equipment necessary for the delivery of Commercial Metro Ethernet, Metro Transport; PRI and POTS.

- Track all equipment RMAs and ensure the proper levels of spare inventory is maintained.

- Perform scheduled maintenance on all metro last mile and customer premise equipment such as software upgrades and equipment upgrades and assist with such maintenance on the core network equipment as needed.

- Maintain proficiency in trouble shooting techniques and the use of test equipment such as optical power meters, OTDRs, Optical Spectrum Analyzers, Ethernet Sniffer and Ethernet, SONET, T1 and DS3 test equipment.

- Work with the Commercial Customer Support Team to provide customer education and troubleshooting training as needed.

- Ensure all network and facility security procedures are followed to protect the network hardware and systems for unauthorized access.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


- Associates Degree in computer networking or telecommunications infrastructure is preferred but not required. Real world experience in network troubleshooting and customer relations is also preferred.
Real world experience in Telco POTS delivery and wiring is preferred. High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent required.

- PBX system certifications are preferred but not required.

- SIP experience is preferred but not required.

- Installation and trouble shooting of PRI is preferred but not required.

- Basic knowledge of telco standards is required, cable counts, creating fittings, terminating cable and running cable is preferred.

- Experienced and knowledgeable in network troubleshooting techniques.

- Thorough understanding of Metro Ethernet transport including IP subnetting, nating, domain controllers, VLANS, Q&Q, dot1q tunnels, COS, CDP, VTP, and related subjects.

- Thorough understanding of TDM circuit operations, including test access, circuit testing, line coding and framing of DS1 ' s, DS3 ' s, OC3 ' s, OC12 ' s, OC48 ' s and OC192 ' s.

- Thorough understanding of the RF plant is preferred, experience with cable modems and EMTA ' s

- Must be able to efficiently operate such test equipment as optical power meters, OTDR, Optical Spectrum Analyzers, and Ethernet, SONET, T1 and DS3 test equipment.

- Basic understanding of Metro Ethernet

- Transport protocols such as MPLS, VPLS, RPR, SONET and similar network protocols.

- Basic understanding of OSPF and BGP routing.

- CCNA is preferred.

- A-1 Certification is preferred.

- SONET, TDM, or DACS Certifications are preferred.

- Three to five years ' experience in network troubleshooting is required. Such experience should include experience in network troubleshooting, Ethernet routing, TDM, and SONET circuits.
