Job Summary

The Government Operations Support Specialist supports assigned government and defense sector customers. He/she provides customer pricing quotes and resolves customer and operational issues. This position gives operational guidance to internal and external groups (e.g., shippers, consignees, service center operations, carriers, international gateway operations, etc.). This individual ensures compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements and supports process improvements.

The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate the rate quote process and develop pricing solutions for government customers. To do this, the Government Operations Support Specialist gathers rate quote request information and identifies customer needs. He/she informs customers of appropriate product and services, solicits their feedback, and determines which offerings to recommend and price. He/she calculates shipping costs to provide customers with actual service figures, forecasts shipment delivery elements, and advises customer of delivery expectations.

This position also handles the shipping request implementation process. Duties include retrieving pick-up cutoff and lead time requirements to determine the earliest pick-up availability, and obtaining shipper, payer, and consignee information to determine which centers will service each portion of the shipping request, and initiating the shipping process. In addition, the Government Operations Support Specialist facilitates shipment execution, and tracks customer shipments and transit times. This involves consulting with origin and destination service centers to verify on-time service and address shipment details (e.g., changes, special instructions, etc.), and following up with destination offices and agents to verify accurate shipment movement, obtain proof of delivery, and troubleshoot shipment delays and service failures.

Other Duties

  • Determine the method of payment to properly update invoices for Finance and Accounting.
  • Itemize and allocate payments in transportation system.
  • Ensure adherence to government directed routing instructions to avoid contract violations.
  • Provide global government operations customer support: research issues, investigate and obtain information from internal and external resources (service centers, carriers, etc.), provide customer resolutions.
  • Stay current with rate changes and departmental and regulatory policies and procedures.
