The role of Senior Statistician (multiple positions) in Bellevue, Washington will contribute to T-Mobile's success by helping to extract relevant information from enormous amounts of data and use advanced analytic tools to conduct experimental design, predictive modeling, optimization, simulation, data mining, and statistical hypothesis testing to create actionable analytics that drive value to the business. Be part of a team that reacts quickly to the needs of a fast paced business environment. Resulting analytical information will provide key answers to determine market strategy questions such as which customers should receive special offers; which offers/products are a 'win' for both the customer and T-Mobile; how to help customers get the most out of their devices; and to make other sound business decisions. As a member of this team, you will interact with diverse groups including marketing, IT, finance, and customer care. We are in need of an experienced Senior Statistician who takes initiative, interacts well with internal/external business partners, and is self motivated to continue building his/her skills and leadership capabilities.

The Senior Statistician will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide leadership and creativity by utilizing advanced quantitative methods from the fields of statistics, operations research, economics and data mining to identify opportunities to bring value to the business and influence decision making.

  • Apply strong analytical skills and ability to efficiently frame and solve unstructured and complex analytical problems.

  • Analytic tasks may include creating response and uplift models, cross-sell / up-sell analysis, retention models, churn forecasting, offer optimization, customer value analysis, etc.

  • Use quantitative methods: general and generalized linear models, including ANOVA, linear, logistic and/or Poisson regression; survival analysis, econometrics, microeconomics, utility theory and profit maximization, Markov processes, time series forecasting, non-parametric methods; and data mining/machine learning, design of experiments, statistical sampling, and hypothesis generation and testing.

  • Apply strong SAS programming skills, including using SAS Enterprise Miner.

  • Apply strong programming skills using other statistically-related programming packages including 'ËœR', Python, or Matlab.

  • Write intermediate to advanced SQL code in relational database environment.

  • Structure project plans, set expectations, and communicate with business partners both orally and in writing. Present and communicate results in manner appropriate for target business and technical audiences. Present and sell results to management.

  • Mentor and teach analysts in partner departments. Provide guidance and tools to enable other teams to 'self-service' where appropriate.

  • Also responsible for other duties / projects as assigned by business management as needed.



Applicant's experience must include:

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to efficiently frame and solve unstructured and complex analytical problems;

  • 5 years of experience using quantitative methods: general and generalized linear models, including ANOVA, linear, logistic and/or Poisson regression, survival analysis, econometrics, microeconomics, utility theory and profit maximization, Markov processes, time series forecasting, non-parametric methods; and data mining/machine learning, design of experiments, statistical sampling, and hypothesis generation and testing;

  • 5 years of experience in SAS programming, as well as some professional experience using SAS Enterprise Miner;

  • 2 years of experience writing SQL code in relational database environment;

  • 2 years of experience writing statistically-related code in 'ËœR', Python, or Matlab (or equivalent); and

  • Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with both a business and technical audience. Ability to present and sell results to management.

Education, Experience and Training

  • Applicants must have a Master's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Math, Computer Science, related field or its equivalent plus 5 years of relevant work experience as Sr. Statistician, Sr. Data Analyst, Econometrician, Data Scientist or related occupation. Will accept applicant with any suitable combination of education, training or experience.
