This position within the Corporate Risk Management team is responsible for managing the Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) program for Discover Bank (“the Bank”) including the identification of reportable activity through the preparation and filing of SARs and subsequent analysis of trending and reporting. This role encompasses oversight and management of multiple SAR teams located in Ohio and Arizona, with certain focus on Fraud, credit, AML, and OFAC risks. This individual must have a thorough, current understanding of applicable regulations as well as various guidance and interpretations of such regulations from FinCEN and various regulatory bodies. This role requires an acute attention to detail, the ability to work independently and execute risk-based decisions with minimal oversight, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to lead and motivate other individuals at various levels in their careers.

Qualifications

Individuals in this role are responsible for:
• Overseeing the day-to-day production of SAR filings across multiple teams in multiple cities in the United States to ensure reports are submitted to FinCEN within required regulatory timeframes, balancing workloads across teams where appropriate.
• Implementing and maintaining a robust quality control program within the teams to ensure SARs are accurate and complete prior to submission.
• Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and assessing capabilities and proficiencies of individuals across multiple positions and experience levels within the team
• Assisting in the development and periodic maintenance of policies and operating procedures to ensure the documents are updated to reflect any changes in Global policy, industry trends and standards, technology enhancements, etc.
• Coordinating periodic quality reviews to ensure Analysts and Team Leads are completing SAR related tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Managing, coaching, and mentoring various levels of staff from entry level Analysts through Team Leads to promote career development for all individuals, including defining clear objectives and goals as they relate to each staffing level along the career path of the organization.
• Cultivating effective relationships with management and other key stakeholders in other Bank business units in and out of Risk and Compliance, especially those with responsibilities of identifying and escalating potential unusual activity for review and possible SAR filing.
• Providing meaningful, robust metrics and reporting identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Key Risk Indicators (KRI) to Management and other key stakeholders.
• Continuously assessing the program, identifying and implementing opportunities for increased effectiveness, efficiency, and risk mitigation. In addition, coordinating with other Discover Financial Services (DFS) Lines of Business to ensure consistency across the entire enterprise.
• Collaborating with technology partners to ensure the systems supporting the program are operating effectively.
• Participating in, managing, or chairing key project initiatives or committees.
• Attending continuing education courses, reading industry news articles, attending workshops and conferences, etc. to ensure awareness and understanding of the most current industry standards and regulatory expectations.
