SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Lead Technician repairs and overhauls automotive brake systems in customer vehicles utilizing AMRA/MAP Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards. This position additionally assists the Shop Foreman or Service Manager in their duties.
All job duties will be performed consistent with Just Brakes mission, goal, vision, values and financial objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned.) A review of this position has excluded the marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of the fundamental job duties. - Perform complete disc or drum brake service including, but not limited to: hydraulic repair/replacement, attaching hardware (removal/replacement), front- end/suspension, light drive train repair, wheel bearing service, Anti-lock brake/electrical and wheel/tire removal and reinstall.
- Assist, as directed, the Shop Foreman or Center Manager in procuring all needed parts for customer brake repairs.
- Properly operate lifting equipment, i.e. jacks, jack stands and hoists.
- Responsible for proper brake lathe operation, cleaning and maintenance.
- Answer telephones, using Just Brakes Telephone Procedures.
- Attend Just Brakes training as directed.
- Maintain appropriate skill level with traditional or advanced hand tools.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the field of automotive brake repair, including but not limited to discovering new information and technology for both current and future problem solving in vehicle diagnosis.
- Assist with parts room management.
- Clean all areas of Center (inside and out) as directed.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assist Center Management, as directed, in supervising, training, assigning, directing and monitoring the quality of production of the Center brake technicians and brake technician trainees, in accordance with Just Brakes Policies and Procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Must own the minimum required hand tools for this position with reasonable progress made at acquiring additional tools as the employee advances in skills. (Refer to the ‘Required Tool List’ in the General Shop Procedures Manual).
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the operation of Just Brakes POS system.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to add and subtract in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Must have dependable transportation to work.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or General Education degree (GED); or twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- Basic Windows based computer skills preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS
- Just Brakes Brake Lathe and Road Test Certifications are required.
- A.S.E. Certification is preferred.
- MAP Accreditation is preferred.
- Just Brakes Brake Safety Expert Certification is preferred.
- Valid and current driver's license is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, see and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; with assistance.
- Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock and must occasionally climb to high, precarious levels.
- The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat (due to weather conditions), and wet and/or humid conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and the employee is exposed to vibration.
- Long duration computer keyboard use is possible.
- Overtime on demand is required for all positions.
