Overall: Assistant Managers take an active role in the total management of a Jersey Mike's store / operation. In conjunction with the GM, the Assistant Manager helps to enforce the metrics that create operational success, customer satisfaction and store profitability.

Additionally, assistant managers take ownership of a portion of the stores administrative duties as assigned by the GM.

Excellence in Customer Relations:

* Interact with customers in a congenial, knowledgeable and helpful behavior.
* Be a strong staff liaison of customer communication, welcome-ness, small talk and overall satisfaction.
* Be highly visible to customers.
* Be influential in the cultural keeping of the Jersey Mike's operation (history, heritage, friendliness and cleanliness).
* Ensure and emphasize to staff that customer-seating areas must be spotlessly clean and organized at all times.

Effective Communication Skills:

* Maintain a high level of competence in all employees through ongoing education and good employee relations.
* Require a clean, neat and respectful appearance of all personnel.
* As set forth by the GM ensure that all personnel are aware of and fully support all advertising, sales promotions, and public relations programs.
* Maintain a positive spirit and attitude in yourself and all employees, which provides an incentive to build service and control expense while providing quality service at all times.
* Foster pride and a sense of accomplishment in employees. Motivated employees will adhere to your standards and will control waste and yield a more significant profit in operation.
* Encourage open and candid communication

Commitment to Quality Control:

* Have a complete knowledge all store procedures.
* Be one of the main keepers of the franchise system to ensure operational consistency.
* Establish and maintain standards of excellence in food preparation, packaging, and customer service by following Jersey Mike's policies and procedures.

Store Administration:

Ordering & Inventory - AM's must know the proper ordering procedures for all inventoried items. Orders must be placed on time with an emphasis on matching activity with proper stock levels and never running out of product.

Order Receiving - The AM must require strict adherence to receiving procedures;
Including the through inspection of goods received to verify quality and to inspect
for damage.

Employee Scheduling - AM's must either be capable of scheduling staff or be developing the capability to schedule staff consistent with the needs of the GM (to ensure fast, quality service during key service times, while complying with all budget and training hour constraints set forth by management).

Accounting - AM's shall be capable of accurately completing mid-day cash-drop and closing cash-out procedures. AM's are responsible for all register funds and safe back-up funds during their shifts. Additionally, AM's should have working knowledge of store accounting functions, including:

* Payroll / Time keeping administration and verification
* Purchasing, receiving, invoice verification, and accounts payable documentation procedures
* Inventory control procedures

Security and Protection - AM's must require adherence to established security procedures regarding storage, handling and banking of cash, security of equipment and inventory.

Personnel Administration:

Hiring - The AM should be capable of interviewing and hiring personnel.

Personnel Policies - The AM must comply with and be versed in all Jersey Mike's human resource policies.

Staff Training - Proper training is critical and paves the way for a smooth running Jersey Mike's operation. Under the direction of the GM, AM's must take an active role in the staff's training, re-training and development, including:

* Possible development of a store trainer / training officer(s)
* Utilization of JM's "Step Training Process" and maintaining employee progress records of the training process.
* Utilization of supervisors and key employees for training purposes
* Providing on-going employee education and review of operational skills
* Assisting the GM in evaluating employees on a regular basis, including reviewing their performance personally, taking appropriate steps for correction, commending personnel for outstanding performance, and suggesting wage adjustments to the GM.

Job Description Clarity - AM's should be familiar with crew person and supervisor job descriptions and be capable of clearly explaining them to staff members. This is critical from the start of new hire training to the future development of your staff.

Maintenance and Repair:

Assistant Managers must work with GM's to:

* Enforce planned maintenance and repair of all equipment as specified by the manufacturers.
* Use all equipment only in accordance with good judgment and manufacturer's recommendations.
* Promptly arrange to repair or to have repaired any equipment that becomes inoperable. Adhere to service contracts as applicable.

Cleanliness:

AM's must be one of the most critical officers of cleanliness in the operation by providing immediate feedback and review of cleanliness tasks on a daily basis. AM's must coordinate action plans with the GM to enforce the following store cleanliness programs:

* Enforce daily, bi-weekly & monthly cleaning and maintenance programs, and initiate immediate corrective action whenever necessary.
* Install the "clean-as-you-go" philosophy into staff members.
* Teach staff to emphasize cleanliness in customer sight areas such as lobby, front line, front slicer, meat case, sneeze guard, back counter, drink stations, front door glass, restrooms and restaurant exterior.
* Install a second-nature approach to daily checklists and demand consistent completion of checklists.
