Problem solving, superior technical skills, and possessing the ability to use good judgment under pressure are just some of the key attributes we are looking for in our Ride Mechanics. 


Ride Mechanics at Universal Orlando are responsible for:

  • Maintaining, both preventive and corrective, Ride and Show mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing animation and special effects.
  • Participating in testing, verification and/or calibration of applicable mechanical systems.
  • Responding to downtimes and both show element quality repair and ride recovery related issues.
  • Diagnosing system failures and providing immediate and long term corrective action, which involves researching defective items/parts. This includes logical and extensive troubleshooting and referring to technical manuals while using a systematic approach. 
  • Performing modifications to ride vehicles and/or show equipment as directed by the Universal Orlando Engineering Department. 
  • Performing assembly and disassembly for annual inspections and verifying quality control/NDT requirements have been met.
  • Logging completion of inspection, corrective action, and/or repairs made and listing applicable parts used.
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


 


To perform the role of a Ride Mechanic successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • High school degree or GED is required.  Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred.
  • Three to five years experience in troubleshooting and repair of complex electro-mechanical systems, as well as hydraulic and mechanical systems either in the theme park industry or other industrial industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of the metric system and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret spreadsheets. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to use hydraulic/pneumatic schematics and mechanical blueprints during routine maintenance/troubleshooting. 
  • Ability to understand machine prints with dimensions and tolerances as well as read and understand mechanical assembles and associated terminology. Must have knowledge of and experience with dial indicators, inside and outside micrometers and dial calipers. 
  • Must be proficient in the use of common hand tools including torque wrenches. Must have own tools (minimum requirement list is provided).


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Ride Mechanic job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; frequently required to stand, talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally required to walk, sit, climb or balance, taste or smell.
  • The individual must regularly lift 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close Vision; Color Vision; Peripheral Vision; Depth Perception; Ability to Adjust Focus.


The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Ride Mechanic job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; wet, humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; vibration. 
  • While performing this job, the noise level in the work environment is: Loud Noise.
