DIESEL MECHANIC

Job Description: Perform all technical duties of a technician in service and repair of a heavy duty trucks and equipment and may also work on overhauling and maintaining diesel engines and automatic transmissions used to operate trucks, generators, and other equipment by performing the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, disassemble, inspect, repair and rebuild products, parts and engines

  • Remove and reinstall products within acceptable standard repair hours.

  • Inspect engine or transmission for conformance to standard.

  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition

  • Service and repair suspension and brakes.

  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, jacks and hoists.

  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts and screws and reassemble equipment.

  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.

  • Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.

  • Attached test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.

  • Rebuild gas or diesel engines.

  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications

  • Diagnose cause of nonconformance

  • Identify corrective action necessary to correct nonconformance

  • Diagnose and repair basic equipment wiring

  • Cleans tools and working area

  • Paper work and/or R/O documentation

  • Basic computer literacy and good verbal communication skills

  • Performs other routine duties

  • Complete written reports on jobs including labor, parts, cause and corrections, repair stories, travel details, etc.

  • Follow all established safety procedures.

    Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with diagnostics and repair of various types of diesel engines.

  • Strong understanding of tooling equipment, tooling processes, and industrial trends.

  • Understanding of technical issues and ability to apply previous technical experience to solve technical problems.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Is required to furnish a complete set of hand tools and have a working knowledge of diesel products.

  • Practiced documentation skills.

  • Excellent attendance & pride in quality of work.

  • TWIC Card is preferred OR must meet qualifications to acquire card.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical/vocational school; and/or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.



    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Valid state driver's license required. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred. TWIC Card or qualification to acquire card.
