The Software Engineer works in a team of software engineers, engineers, linguists and medical domain experts in the planning, design, implementation, testing, documentation and maintenance of software modules and linguistic knowledge bases for state-of-the-art medical systems. The Software Engineer works with modules which perform document segmentation, tokenization, morphological analysis, syntactic parsing and semantic analysis. The Software Engineer is responsible for tools used by linguists, medical coders and engineers in the maintenance, augmentation and testing of the NLP modules, communication with backend databases, interfaces with other company software components, performance monitoring and enhancement, and various data import, export and validation systems. The NLP Software Engineer reports to the NLP Software Engineering Manager. 

Positions in theis function deliver professional level technical work in support of the development of company products, tools, platforms and services, typically for an external customer or end user. Operates within established methodologies, procedures, and guidelines. Applies knowledge of principles and techniques to solve technical problems. Works closely with other functions to understand customer needs and to develop product roadmaps.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, implementation and maintenance of NLP software modules, interfaces, tools and associated systems. 
  • Coordination with subject matter, linguistic and computational linguistic experts in product requirements definition, design, implementation and testing. 
  • Coordination with product management and other company software teams to ensure unified priorities for product enhancements and new product development. 
  • Rigorous testing to ensure high quality results that meet product requirements. 
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated strong design and implementation skills, and the ability to innovate. Work will be in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment that requires the ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed.
  • Works with less structured, more complex issues.
  • Serves as a resource to others.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years work experience as a Software Engineer 
  • 2+ years previous experience in the following software development platforms: Java, C#, Python or Visual C++ 
  • 3+ years experience writing complex SQL Server queries 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with IIS administration 
  • Experience with JBoss Rules (Drools) 
  • Experience with automated build and deploy processes 
  • Experience with Software Conifguration Management (SCM) strategies 
  • Experience or education in Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing 
  • Experience with commercial OCR solutions.
