It takes a talented group of Team Members to run Universal Orlando, and we need a dedicated team to support the thousands of Team Members employed here. A Benefits Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administration of all group insurance coverage, 401(k) plan, tuition reimbursement, COBRA, Disability, and various company policies.


A Benefits Assistant at Universal Orlando is responsible for:

  • Compiling benefit packets for orientation and assisting with orientation when necessary.
  • Assisting Team Members with questions (walk-ins and phone calls).
  • Providing information to Team Members regarding group insurance, disabilities, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, COBRA, sick leave, PTO, personal holiday, vacation, and other leaves.
  • Processing benefit enrollment forms, assisting Team Members in completion of forms, inputting forms into HRIS, and creating and maintaining benefit files.
  • Calculating and processing all deductions/refunds necessary based on re-class date, or additions due to status changes.
  • Processing COBRA information and providing to our third-party administrator.
  • Processing short term disability claims via phone calls from Team Members and supervisors; providing letters and claim forms to Team Members; providing paperwork and phone correspondence to disability carrier; and processing Payroll Personnel Action forms.
  • Assisting in the administration of the 401(k) plan by determining eligibility; inputting forms into HRIS; processing enrollment information; and sending weekly checks to trustee.
  • Notifying participants who have terminated of the procedures for requesting a distribution; processing distributions; processing all changes and semi-annual enrollments. 
  • Verifying monthly financial statements and responding to Team Members’ questions.
  • Processing paperwork for the tuition reimbursement program.
  • Completing benefit verification forms and workers’ compensation information.
  • Notifying payroll and processing the paperwork for leaves of absences.
  • Assisting with Health Fairs, flu shots, and health promotions, and other projects as assigned.
  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Orlando policies, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned.



To perform the role of a Benefits Assistant successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • High school degree or GED required. 
  • One year in benefit related position preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi task and handle large volume of work.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Benefits Assistant job.



While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:

  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) sit; talk; hear audible alarms, voice commands with background noise; use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; use close vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) repeat motions more than twice per minute; use repetition with an input device-a keyboard or mouse-in a steady manner; use distance vision with or without corrective lens (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) stand for prolonged periods; walk for prolonged periods (including ability to walk at a given pace that is predetermined by a moving sidewalk); climb stairs/ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; reach, pull, push with hands and arms above head; lift up to 10 pounds with control; maintain concentration/focus (e.g., ability to interpret the work environment and make decisions on predetermined operating policies and procedure).
