Presently WIS International is seeking a highly motivated Director of Compliance to join our team.


JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Compliance is responsible for developing strategic enhancements to WIS International's Corporate Compliance Program. Through collaborative strategy development, the Director of Compliance will identify and oversee initiatives to design efficient and effective compliance programs that protect the assets of WIS International and its staff. This position is accountable for the development of strategic programs which ensure compliance and strong risk management while maintaining a positive collaborative atmosphere.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Direction and Development:


  • Formulate the strategy, roadmap and overall direction for the Compliance Program and associated underlying resources required to enable the strategy.


  • Develop strategies for the detection and prevention of internal and external integrity breaches in an environment of changing business operations and fraud trends.


  • Establish an annual business plan for the Compliance Program, monitor results to plan, and, communicate strategies/tactics throughout the organization.


Integrity Compliance:


  • Acting in the capacity of WIS International's Corporate Compliance lead, supporting the integrity of the business with overarching responsibility for compliance by:


  • Providing oversight and support to direct operational leadership for WIS' compliance regime.


  • Immediately bringing forward real or potential matters of non-compliance and recommending appropriate actions to meet compliance.


  • Identifying issues & risks and recommending actions which maintain compliance with minimal impact to operations and staff.


  • Communicating with WIS senior management or authorities, as required?.


  • Ensure the compliance program is well-designed, applied and monitored to provide a solid foundation for integrity. This includes formulating the strategy and overseeing implementation of: ?




  • New aspects of the compliance program as required by legislative changes and associated compliance policies and procedures.


  • An effective risk assessment program to identify, analyze and draw conclusions on inherent and residual risks at an enterprise wide and business line level.


  • WIS' risk based approach (including the assessment of the risks associated with products/services/delivery channels/staff, and the identification of high risk areas (and the mitigation/monitoring of these risks).


  • Appropriate training programs and ensure completion by all required employees.?




  • Facilitate partnering with internal stakeholders and providing expert advice and counsel to direct reports and other stakeholders involved in the development of new products, services and systems and on the design of specific procedures and controls.


  • Oversight of the preparation for compliance examinations or internal compliance reviews and the development of appropriate responses to findings and related recommendations.


  • Prepare reports for executive management, related Compliance Committee or the Board of Directors.


  • Participate on internal project teams as required to represent the compliance function.


Fraud Prevention & Corporate Security:


  • Assume supporting responsibility for WIS fraud prevention by:


  • Providing oversight and support to direct operational leadership of all fraud detection, prevention and mitigation processes.


  • Approving actions recommended by the team relative to real or potential matters of internal or external fraud which mitigate or eliminate fraud risk with minimal impact to operations and staff.


  • examining fraud trend intelligence development to effectively design, develop, implement and validate fraud strategies and systems to reduce losses.


  • Quantitative and qualitative assessments and make recommendations to senior management regarding fraud prevention strategies and enhancements to systems of internal control.


  • Enhance fraud management policies and procedures.


  • Performance monitoring of all fraud prevention and detection systems.


  • Facilitate fraud management by partnering with internal stakeholders and providing expert advice and counsel to direct reports and other stakeholders involved in the development of new products, services and systems and on the design of specific fraud management procedures and controls.


Leadership:


  • Provides leadership, counsel and mentorship to direct reports.


  • Leads effective performance management processes, employee development plans, succession planning and coaching strategies for direct reports.


  • Work collaboratively with leadership of all organizational functions.


  • Strategic thought leader – challenging direct reports to create opportunities that are rooted in actionable insights.


  • Engage in open, honest, and respectful discussion with internal stakeholders as required, to ensure identified compliance or fraud issues are sufficiently understood and addressed.


  • Function as a proactive business partner with the ability to build win/win relationships founded on mutual trust and respect. This will be demonstrated through value add identification of issues, together with recommended mitigation solutions.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:


  • 5-7 years' experience with Audit, Internal audit or Loss prevention with the business services industry is preferred.


  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with Program Development and Compliance oversight is required.


  • Minimum of 5 years of Leadership experience is required.


Experience:


  • Thorough understanding is required of business services and operational policies and operational delivery systems, including organizational structure and risk management methodologies.


  • Thorough practical knowledge is required of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


  • University degree in one of the following quantitative fields: business, accounting, statistics, quantitative finance, quantitative economics, or mathematical finance is not required but desirable.


  • Accounting, Loss Prevention, or Internal Audit designation would be considered an asset.

  • Find unique but compliant solutions to unconventional issues.


  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required to identify deficiencies in compliance procedures and policies and develop recommendations for solutions.


  • Perform investigations and formulate conclusions in demanding and less familiar situations, using precedent and own acquired knowledge.


Communication:


  • Highly developed communication and strategic influencing skills are required when interacting with internal partners and other stakeholders, including senior management.


  • Highly developed listening and negotiation skills are required to convince senior management when introducing new ideas and legislated policy recommendations for action or change.


  • Requires tact and diplomacy to:


    • Respond to inquiries from our internal partners (Staff or Operations), external partners (government agencies, law enforcement, etc.), internal analysts/regulators.


    • Discuss compliance issues or matters with internal partners.


  • Responsible for working with Human Resources on disseminating changes to policies and procedures throughout the organization or clarifying the existing ones when necessary.


  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to:


    • Clearly articulate observations/recommendations in an organized and understandable format for the target reader.


    • Prepare and write reports including detailed recommendations.


    • Prepare policy & procedures.


    • Prepare and make presentations on compliance matters to internal partners and tailor messages to suit the level of audience.

Physical Demands:


  • Requires the ability to sit continuously, stand occasionally and walk occasionally.


  • Regularly requires a great deal of visual concentration using equipment such as a computer.


  • Infrequently requires bending, squatting or climbing a stool/ladder when in the field


  • Occasionally requires lifting equipment > 22 lbs.


  • Ability to drive safely to meetings.


  • Ability to periodically fly or use other public transpiration when necessary to complete investigations, attend meetings, deliver training or receive training.


Mental Demands:


  • Must be mentally adaptable and flexible to deal with a variety of people and changing priorities


  • Must be able to handle the pressure of working to schedules, may occasionally require unusual hours of work or time zone changes, longer than normal days and deadlines.


  • Must be able to analyze causes of interpersonal conflict (both with employees and customers) and resolve these sometimes complex issues despite ambiguities.


  • Must be able to analyze data in a computerized environment.


  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.
