Within our Architectural Coatings business, we produce paints, stains, and specialty coatings under the PPG Pittsburgh® Paints, PPG Olympic® Paints and Stains, and PPG Porter® Paints brands, and service the North American coatings industry across three channels.
PPG has recently completed the acquisition of the AkzoNobel North American Architectural Coatings business. This acquisition provides our newly combined Trade organization a tremendous platform for profitable growth. This acquisition enables us to now operate in 800 retail stores, sell through over 4,000 dealer stores and supply product to large home improvement retailers, such as Lowe's and Home Depot. This acquisition also brings a portfolio of well established brands to PPG such as Glidden, Glidden Professional, Ralph Lauren Paint, Devoe Coatings and Martha Stewart Living paints; Flood, Sikkens and Synteko woodcare products; plus Liquid Nails adhesives and caulks.

PPG Industries has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Mechanic at our facility located in Temple, TX. This position reports directly to the Site Engineering Manager.

The Maintenance Mechanic is primarily responsible for maintenance and repair of equipment at the plant. After an initial training period, the incumbent will likely work either 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. - 6:15 a.m.)

Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and breakdown, and repairs.
  • Variety of tasks involving electricity, hydraulics, mechanical equipment, pneumatics, natural gas, etc. to ensure plant equipment is operational.


Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Maintenance or related experience with a working knowledge of maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift or 3rd shift.
  • Basic mathematical and English skills.
  • Understanding of English and metric systems of measurement.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and complete complex repairs to machinery and equipment.
  • Good decision-making; can work independently of others.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate problems with equipment to other employees and/or vendors.
  • Education and/or experience with hand and power tools; proper use and care.
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory and its applications.
  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of electrical measuring equipment, e.g., Fluke meters, amp meters, etc.
  • Experience with plant instrumentation systems, e.g., level measurement, temperature measurement, 4-20 mA signals, etc.
  • PLC programming/ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment operation, e.g., pumps, valves, actuators, flow meters, bearings, belts, fasteners, etc.
  • Knowledge of mechanical measuring devices, e.g., calipers, micrometer.
  • Interpretation of basic drawings and schematics, e.g. P&ID’s.
  • Understanding of basic pneumatic control systems.
  • Willingness to work required overtime due to operational needs, including holidays in the event of weather-related circumstances.

Preferred:
  • At least two years of technical training.
  • Understanding the basics of hydraulic theory and its applications.
  • Understanding the basics of mechanical piping systems.
  • Computer skills, maintenance systems (Datastream Systems MP2 Professional Version 5.0).
  • Maintenance of boiler and steam systems.
  • Maintenance of air compressors and pneumatic/fluidic systems.
  • Welding skills/certification.
