On behalf of Research Triangle Institute International, Headway Workforce Solutions is currently seeking Part-Time Bilingual (English-Spanish) Field Interviewers to work on a research study in the Los Angeles County area of California.

Position Description
As part of a research agenda examining factors affecting wealth inequality across racial and ethnic groups (referred to as the National Asset Scorecard of Communities of Color), RTI will conduct in-person interviews with respondents in Los Angeles County, California. This project will study the assets and debts of specific racial and ethnic groups and will examine the association of certain factors with household wealth. The position will begin with a training the first week of January and last through April 2015. Field Interviewers will work an average of 18 hours per week travelling to respondents' homes and conducting face-to-face interviews which will last approximately 45 minutes.

Position requirements
  • Experience in Field Interviewing, locating and gaining access to hard-to-reach populations.
  • Must be comfortable going into low-income neighborhoods and conducting interviews in a variety of settings.
  • Availability for a variable schedule for a minimum of 10 – 15 hours each week throughout the duration of the data collection period. Minimum of 18 hours per week to conduct interviewing and tracing during field data collection.
  • Have reliable personal automobile available for business use and a valid drivers' license and automobile insurance required by your state.
  • Be available and willing to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours as required by your specific assignment.
  • Complete the required number of interviews and tasks by the end of the data collection period in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Accurately complete all project documentation, including electronic survey instruments and all reporting forms.
  • Adhere to project deadlines for completing interviews, reporting progress and returning materials and equipment.
  • Ability to carry project-related equipment, up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to complete all required activities in a professional manner, while maintaining the integrity of all information acquired.
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with your Field Supervisor (FS) and other project staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management's concerns.
  • Be receptive—not defensive—when given feedback from project personnel about your performance, striving to learn and improve.
  • Familiarity and comfort using a handheld electronic tablet.
  • Must have regular and reliable access to an internet connection for data transmissions
  • Prompt, reliable, and accurate weekly reporting to Field Supervisor.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English and Spanish.


Training and Pay

Successful completion of paid, in-person Field Interviewer project training session in the first week of January 2015, scheduled to last 3-4 days. Training will be held in Los Angeles County, California.

This position will offer an hourly rate of $13.25/hour with travel reimbursed at $0.56/mile, as determined by the federal government.
