The PPG Circleville, Ohio Plant is the company's center for resin production. Our sophisticated polymer resins are used in PPG paint-making plants from North America to China and are compounded into an assortment of finishes serving different markets, but primarily the automotive market.
The Process Safety Management & Enterprise Excellence Facilitator will have direct responsibility for the 14 required elements of PSM in relation to the Circleville, Ohio facility. These elements are; (1) Employee participation, (2) Process Safety Information, (3) Process Hazard Analysis, (4) Operating Procedures, (5) Training, (6) Contractor Safety, (7) Pre-Startup Safety Review, (8) Mechanical Integrity, (9) Hot Work Program, (10) Management of Change, (11) Incident Investigation, (12) Emergency Planning and Response, (13) Compliance Audits, and (14) Trade Secrets. In some of the elements, the incumbent will have complete responsibility and for other elements the incumbent will ensure others, who have that responsibility, meet the requirements of the standard. The successful candidate will schedule and lead critical PSM activities (PHA sessions and PSM Training of employees) and will track and report out on key PSM metrics. They will oversee and guide the facility in compliance with all OSHA PSM standard requirements.

The position will become trained to the level of black belt in the Six Sigma/Lean tools. In this role, as Manager of Quality Tools, the person will ensure others are trained to appropriate levels in the tools; facilitate the use of the tools to address high priority quality improvement projects; and maintain an active list of projects that will deliver value to the business. The projected break out of duties is 70% PSM and 30% Quality/Enterprise Improvement.

Other Responsibilities Include:
  • Schedules and leads Process Hazard Analysis teams for facilities covered processes (on a 5 year rotation);
  • Assembles all pertinent / required documents, schedules the sessions, operates the PHA software package, completes the required checklists, prepares the final reports, and enters all PHA recommendations into the tracking software (IMPACT);
  • Monitors the incident reporting and tracking system to ensure that all PSM incidents and near-misses are adequately identified, investigated, and that appropriate corrective actions are identified and implemented;
  • Trains new employees and aids in refresher training of existing employees with respect to Process Safety Management; and
  • Oversees and leads facility quality / enterprise excellence activities


Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field;
  • Must have 4-5 years of experience in a PSM covered Chemical Manufacturing environment;
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and an aptitude to learn chemical and operational principles as they relate to the job;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Good technical writing skills;
  • Sufficient computer skills to effectively communicate and lead key job activities;
  • A working knowledge of various Microsoft software packages;
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, sound organizational abilities and be able to prioritize and manage several tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Familiarity with chemical process control equipment is preferred.
