Overall Purpose & Objective of the Position:
Technician fabricates eyeglasses at a designated workstation for retail stores & wholesale accounts in a manner that ensures a professional, pleasurable patient experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Perform duties related to picking/padding tools used by the surfacing department
  • Perform duties of fining & smoothing the backside of lens surfaces
  • Perform duties of polishes back surface of lenses after smoothing
  • Performs duties to clean area after jobs to include utilization of Ultrasonic lens cleaner, cleaning tools, place surface blocks in block washer, and wax
  • Performs lens tinting/UV application
  • Performs duties to polish lens edges
  • Performs finishing duties to operates hand edger to place a safety bevel on the back of each lenses prior to assembly
  • Perform finish cosmetic inspection of eyewear
  • Perform finish bench alignment of eyewear
  • Perform tinting of finished optical lenses
  • Performs duties to operate Frame Tracing equipment which determines lens shape & size
  • Makes recommendations for efficiencies, processes, etc. which will deliver either quality, cost savings, and/or profitability improvements within the department and/or across the organization


Physical Demands:
  • Perform in a normal light manufacturing environment
  • Maintain the manual dexterity required to operate manufacturing equipment
  • Correct vision to meet normal vision standards
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Lift 25 pounds
  • Loud Noise Levels
  • Mechanical Hazards
  • Non-toxic Chemicals


Skills/Qualifications:
  • High School or GED diploma
  • Prior stable work history
  • Prior experience operating light manufacturing equipment requiring precision and accuracy, meeting expected productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to perform jobs requiring manual dexterity
  • prior experience in jobs that require extended periods of standing
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to effectively speak with staff members and prepare concise and accurate paperwork
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment, functioning for the good of the team over the individual
