A Cake Decorator's first responsibility is to prepare cakes for decorating and decorate cakes to ensure customer requirements are met and build customer loyalty by providing unparalleled customer service.

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, tables, utensils, floor (to ensure safety), and sanitation regulations are met.
  • Maintains proper safety and sanitation methods, emergency procedures, clean-ups, steritech, proper lifting and housekeeping to ensure department standards are met.
  • Maintains department procedures, daily setups, order taking, understanding copyright policies and proper product rotation.
  • Learns product knowledge and procedures, such as product information by category, special orders, cake program, portion control, seasonal items and mixing colors. Ice and decorate cakes by taking prepared icing and applying to cake using spatulas and icing bags. Prepare icing and products for all cakes and other decorated items by reading recipes, measuring ingredients, and mixing product.
  • Operates various pieces of equipment, including mixers, scales, airbrush gun, knives, cutgloves and personal protective equipment (anti-slip shoes). Ensure knowledge about equipment operations and safety measures.
  • Delivers unparalleled customer service, prompt friendly and efficiently. Follows and understands dress code. Is able to handle customer complaints.
  • Follow proper procedures to ensure store meets out-of-stock percentage goals. Fill tables and cases with cakes by taking product from prep area to sales area. Taking special orders from customers over the telephone and in person. Maintain quality of product for sale by checking sales area for dates and condition of product. Document and/or record daily known loss.
  • Applies merchandising principles that will help to generate sales as well as wow the customer. Uses trash compactor and cardboard bailer equipment to ensure sanitation standards are met.
  • Responsible for controlling some expense within a department.
