The Business Channel Manager wins, maintains, and expands relationships with Payer and Employer channel partners within Optum. The Channel Manager is responsible for sales, profitability, and partner recruitment objectives to drive growth of Optum Consumer Solutions Group products. The successful candidate establishes and cultivates strategic business relationships with key sales and channel partners to translate business development strategies and financial goals into specific growth initiatives and successful selling activities. This position also acts as the liaison between the Consumer Solutions Group (CSG) and the Payer and Employer market to ensure the enterprise meets the targeted growth goals distributed across the markets.


 


The Channel Manager represents the entire range of business products and services to the channel partners though may focus on a specific solution or product set.


 


Primary Responsibilities



  • Identify and develop potential business development opportunities for Consumer Solutions Group (CSG) products and services across the Optum Payer and Employer sales channels

  • Manage sales activities and program to ensure progress towards channel sales goals for CSG products and services within the markets

  • Direct coordinated business development activities through assigned channel partner, managing matrix sales teams

  • Possess strong financial acumen to interpret and translate financial targets and business performance to deliver targeted channel growth

  • Establish productive, professional relationships with key personnel in assigned businesses and markets

  • Coordinate the involvement of Optum personnel including support, product, sales and management resources, in order to meet market and channel performance objectives and expectations

  • Meet assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic objectives in assigned areas

  • Proactively lead joint business / market planning sessions that develops mutual performance objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones associated with a productive internal relationship

  • Lead market to business meetings focused on pipeline and channel strategy to deliver growth goals

  • Engage prospective clients at market, trade or industry related events in coordination with channel sales professionals

  • Proactively assess, clarify, and validate partner needs on an ongoing basis

  • Manage potential channel conflicts with sales organization by fostering excellent communication internally and externally, and through strict adherence to established rules of engagement

  • Communicate solution development needs that best address end-user needs, while coordinating the involvement of all necessary resources

  • Ensure compliance with agreements made

  • Drive adoption of business programs among assigned partners

  • Proactively engage and leverage additional assets when needed

Requirements

Required Qualifications



  • 10+ years of experience in sales, sales management, consulting, or product management; Direct business development experience is not a requirement

  • 10+ years of experience with processes and metrics

  • 8+ years experience working with senior-level c-suite executives and demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility for business development, client relationship management and/or consultation

  • Proven experience and expertise in the healthcare product and sales environment

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively message internally 

  • Ability to craft reporting that measures both metrics and results based on business goals

  • Proven ability to operate and effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrix environment

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

  • Ability to analyze and assess capabilities aligned with the needs of the business and markets

Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience with Payer clients

  • Strong understanding of Wellness, Disease Management, Consumer Directed Health Plans, and/or Health Exchanges
