SUMMARY

Provide quality, comprehensive news and feature stories to our viewers. Oversee all aspects of news-gathering and production of assigned stories. Interact with writers, reporters, technical staff and all other production staff who are directly responsible for taking each story from its concept to the air. Make certain that we provide a balanced, accurate, objective picture of all news and current events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

News Coverage

- Reports off-air, shoots & edits video stories and packages for air as assigned by the assignment desk and producers. Proficiency in video shooting and non-linear desktop editing required.

- Use news judgment to help news managers decide which stories to cover and how to present them.

- Insure that all necessary elements on packages are delivered in a timely fashion.

- Keeps informed on current local issues by reading newspapers, wires, and keeping up with the assignments grid in news management tools.

- Edit VOS, SOTs and packages for franchises or news production.

- Assemble, produce and organize news series or specials for air as needed.

- Review content of stories and check for errors of fact, technical errors, creative content, miscues, editorial mistakes and all elements needed to deliver quality programming.

- Responsible for managing equipment - (cameras, news vehicles)

- Organize, post and assemble video-on-demand (VOD) content for all Texas zones.

- Assist video journalists with onscenes and/or live shots either by working with an SNG truck or a broadband unit.

- Be on call for breaking or major news duty as needed

- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

- Bachelors Degree required, preferably in Communication and/or other appropriate field of study. 3-6 months experience in an editorial newsroom position; will consider entry level.

- Must have superior communication skills.

- Must be able to maintain amicable working relationships with co-workers, management and the public.

- Good knowledge of local civic, business, government officials and issues.

- Ability to work under time pressure deadlines, strong computer skills and willingness to work unscheduled hours which may include evenings and weekends.

- Familiarity with various studio and remote broadcasting equipment.

- Must have strong knowledge of common television newsgathering equipment including cameras, tripods, microphones, lighting and other field equipment.

- Must be willing to travel by ground or air.

- Valid Driver ' s License; will be operating company vehicle.\
