Job Description - DOCATIII 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group (AMXG)

Title: Aircraft Mechanic II (Sheet Metal Mechanic)

Number of Positions: 10

Reports to: On Site Supervisor (TBD)

Work Site: Ogden Air Logistics Complex, Hill Air Force Base, UT

Base Pay: $25.76/hr. per WD 05-2531 OC 23022

Health and Welfare: $4.02/hr. in benefits

Job Description:

  • Perform general maintenance, repairs and modifications to aircraft parts and components
  • Remove, repair, fabricate, replace, modify, and install aircraft parts and structural components.
  • Lay out cut, bend, form, shape, fit, drill, ream, install fasteners, rivets, assemble and install sheet metal airframe structural members
  • Work with close tolerance dimensions and various types of fasteners and tools
  • Repair and replace aircraft skins, flight controls surfaces, engine cowlings and other structural parts
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with engineering drawing, procedures, specifications, standards and maintenance manuals.
  • Document work performed in appropriate Air Force systems

Required Experience:

  • Must have an active secret clearance or a favorable NACI
  • Must possess a valid Utah driver's license
  • 2 or more years of experience as a SMM on F-16 aircraft
  • 1 or more years of Air Force Depot Level maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical components, trouble shooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers
  • Working knowledge of technical publications
  • Ability to read and interpreted engineering drawings and processes
  • Experience with Air Force Technical data, blue prints and standard operating procedures

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma

Workplace Environment:

  • All work will be performed in a large Air Force maintenance facility
  • May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dusty and dirty
  • May be required to work in areas with moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold, and wind
  • Required to be able to lift (up to 50 pounds) , reach, bend and work in cramped spaces and in awkward positions
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to respirators
  • Perform work in confined space areas
  • Remove and install anti-icing components, form in-place seals
  • Remove and replace flight control surfaces
  • Prepare aircraft for sheetmetal maintenance; ensuring aircraft is safe for maintenance
  • Inspect and evaluate structural damage to aircraft sheetmetal structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, dents and loose or missing rivets
  • Use principles of radial-line development combined with parallel-line development to devise and calculate patterns for complex structures.

Key responsibilities:

  • Must be able to use common tools such as hammers, punches, pneumatic drill motors, rivet guns, hand sanders, high speed grinders and sanders, protractors, calipers, height, depth, dial gauges and other common pneumatic tools
  • Repair, replace, and/or modify aircraft parts and components as directed by Air Force manuals, engineering drawings and publications
  • Keep the workplace clean and free of FOD- CLEAN AS YOU GO.
  • Identify, mitigate and repair corrosion IAW Air Force processes and procedures
  • Removal and installation of aircraft panels and structural components
  • Operate various sheetmetal tools, modification kit tooling and fixtures

Required Tools and PPE:

  • All tools are Government Furnished Property (GFP)
  • Steel toe safety shoes must be provided by each employee
  • Prescription safety glasses must be provided by the employee

Required Medical Screening and pre-employment requirements:

  • Pre-employment medical exam
  • Blood borne pathogen base line test
  • Pulmonary Function Test
  • 10 Panel Drug Screen
  • Standard Aerotek background check

Leave and Holiday:

  • Ten federal holidays per the Service Contract Act
