On behalf of Battelle Memorial Institute, Headway is seeking outgoing and enthusiastic bilingual individuals to complete research interviews with children and adults for the Healthy Communities Study (HCS). This is a part-time position with a non-traditional schedule and is offering $12- $15 per hour based on experience.

As a Data Collector for Battelle, you will make visits to enrolled participants and collect health and diet related information. The information you gather for the HCS will be used to answer important research questions about how diet, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) are related to community programs and policies.

This project will last a minimum of 12 weeks with potential for additional work based on study needs. Your schedule will need to be flexible to accommodate participants' availability; in general, you will work primarily evenings (after 4:00PM) and weekends. Some weekdays may be necessary based on project need.

Due to the sensitive nature of the study requirements and restrictions, we are only able to consider female candidates on this project.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Eager to engage parents and children with courtesy
  • Desire to contribute to the health and well-being of their community
  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have personal, reliable transportation with proof of insurance
  • Required to pass an in-depth background check and a drug screening
  • An ability to interact comfortably and proficiently with computer tablets and other technology used for the study


Candidates with the following backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Teaching or education related experience
  • Social Work and other human service experience
  • Community Outreach/ Volunteer Experience
  • Healthcare related experience; this includes but is not limited to: Nursing, Patient Care, Caretakers
  • Experience collecting data/information. Examples include: political canvassers, US Census Enumerators, Survey Interviewers, Field Representatives, Research Assistants
  • Experience collecting nutrition and/or physical activity data
  • Prior experience with survey data collection or field research interview studies


Position Specifics:
  • Required to attend all scheduled appointments with participants without exception
  • Required to work according to study scheduling needs, up to 30 hours per week
  • Responsible for consistent and reliable data collection according to study procedures
  • Responsible for collecting physical measurements (height, weight, and waist circumference) using standardized equipment
  • Required to work evenings and weekends to accommodate participant schedules
  • Required to use personal, reliable vehicles for travel to in-home study visits (Project specific mileage will be reimbursed at the current Federal rates)
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and manage daily and weekly assignments
  • Attend a 4- Day paid training in Columbus, OH
