The Information Security Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering design, analysis, and development for various information security tools and operating systems.  


The key responsibilities of the role  are as follows: 


  • Researches, designs, and implements information security solutions for organization systems and products that comply with all applicable security policies and standards
  • Works with IT and vendor partners to ensure that security is factored in the evaluation, selection, installation and configuration process of hardware and software
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations to improve network, system, and application architectures
  • Based on indicators received from other teams, tune and optimize security tools 
  • Assists in responding to audits, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments
  • Define requirements and integrate dissimilar security tools


Requirements

Candidates will be evaluated based on their ability to perform the duties listed above while demonstrating the skills and competencies necessary to be highly-effective in the role. These skills and competencies include: 


  • 5 + years of experience serving in an information security engineering role
  • Technical expertise in network security knowledge, to include VPN, Firewall, network monitoring, intrusion detection, web server security, and wireless security
  • Strong knowledge of common vulnerabilities and exploitation techniques 
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Practical experience with database security, content filtering, vulnerability scanning, and anti-malware 
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g.: Perl, Python, etc.)
  • An understanding of business needs and commitment to delivering high-quality, prompt, and efficient service to the business
  • An understanding of organizational mission, values, and goals and consistent application of this knowledge
  • Strong decision-making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate options 
  • An ability to effectively influence others to modify their opinions, plans, or behaviors
  • Willingness and ability to pass a Department of Defense NAC background check 

Desired experiences: 

  • BS or MA in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field 
  • Deep security architecture knowledge 
  • Experience with a wide variety of security tools
  • Expertise in a variety of scripting and programming languages
  • Experience with malware detection and analysis 
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases 
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) 
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other health care related regulations

As a requirement of UnitedHealth Group's contract with the Department of Defense, this position requires U.S. citizenship and proof of favorable adjudication following submission of Department of Defense form SF86 - , (the National Agency Check or NAC).  Successful completion of the NAC process is a requirement for continued employment in this role.  NAC processing will be initiated by our Security Officer post-offer, and can take 3-6 months for a final decision communication from the Department of Defense.  Candidates will be allowed to begin employment with UnitedHealth Group in this role based on an interim clearance, and final results will be communicated as they are received.  Failure to obtain final NAC approval will result in termination from this role.
