The Enterprise Storage Services Group at Optum Technology is responsible for all aspects of data storage including storage area networks, networked attached storage, object storage, data protection and archival services. This newly created position of Storage Services Consultant will be responsible for ensuring successful design, development, and delivery of storage technologies to support the needs of our consumers in the Optum Cloud. This position is a dual role and requires someone that is comfortable working as an individual contributor and/or a (technical/team/project) lead as directed. This person will need a mix of business and technical skills to ensure our storage services are effectively represented and implemented. This is a senior level role and will require translating technical concepts to non-technical audiences within the UnitedHealth Group organization as well as directly to our external consumers. Given the fast paced nature of our business this person must be innovative, flexible, and open to change.

Specific responsibilities will include the following: 


  • Reviewing RFP responses for business in our sales pipeline
  • Acting as the Storage resourcing lead as contracts are awarded
  • Accurately estimating solution implementation timelines
  • Coordinating and collaborating with internal/external engineering and delivery teams
  • Representing the Storage team as a storage subject matter expert to all levels of the organization
  • Analyzing business requirements to identify technical implications and appropriate storage solutions
  • Working with a high sense of urgency in support of aggressive deadlines
  • Translating complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences (both technical and non-technical in nature) 
  • Adapting to and remaining effective in a changing environment
  • Assisting in the assessment and marketing of new technologies
  • Ensuring operational readiness of new solutions within a DevOps capacity
  • Identifying optimization and automation opportunities
  • Creating and delivering technology solution/strategy presentations and training materials

Requirements

Required qualifications:  

  • 5 + years of Enterprise Storage Engineering experience, including engineering and administering enterprise storage systems and services in a Fortune 50 organization 
  • Demonstrated expertise with both SAN and NAS solutions 
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas as they relate to Storage: Data Protection (Backup/Recovery); Array based replication and Disaster Recovery; IP Networks including related services; authentication/authorization/security and related services; Automation/Scripting; Monitoring and Alerting; Performance Analysis; Reporting and Capacity Management; Troubleshooting; and/or Data Archiving; Virtualization 
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: HDS; IBM; EMC; HP; Brocade; Cleversafe; NetApp
  • Proven Windows, Linux (Unix) and VMware knowledge 
  • Previous experience as a Team Lead or Manager in an IT Service Support capacity  
  • Strong communication and presentation skills – both verbal and written 
  • Proven documentation and diagraming skills, including excellent attention to detail
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
