Principle Engineer
The Time Warner Cable Corporate office currently seeks a Principle Engineer for our Systems Engineering Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
Essential Job Functions:
The position is to lead the integration of Time Warner Cable ' s next generation messaging user interface. In addition, this position is responsible for design of the interface between the Time Warner Cable messaging infrastructure and applications from video, high-speed data, voice and wireless services. This position must act as a liaison between the product team, vendors, lab integration, and deployment for Time Warner Cable ' s messaging products.
The successful candidate will work well with minimal supervision; have a proven track record as an engineer; display strong teamwork; and bring strong written and verbal communications skills.
This position is expected to provide direction and technical leadership for Time Warner Cable ' s overall messaging strategy and work with other engineering teams across Time Warner Cable to integrate this messaging functionality into all aspects of the Time Warner Cable product line. As such, this position is expected to have thorough understanding of where Internet messaging is going, and how to position Time Warner Cable to best take advantage of new trends and technology.
Job Requirements:
10+ years of large broadband ISP systems engineering and design experience
Background in the design and deployment of Tier-1 ISP messaging platforms
Extensive experience with Internet protocols
Network: IPv4 and IPv6, UDP, TCP/IP, 802.3 Ethernet, etc
Service: HTTP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SIP, etc
Extensive experience with UNIX operating systems, especially Linux and Solaris
Extensive experience with x86 based hardware
Extensive experience with relational databases
- SleepyCat and Oracle preferred
Extensive experience with NoSQL databases
- Cassandra preferred
Extensive experience with SAN hardware
Experience with distributed storage technologies
Experience with modern LAN and WAN networking solutions, including load balancing
Experience with SSL and other modern encryption methodologies
Experience with the development of Internet standard RFC drafts
Knowledge of the full product lifecycle development and documentation
Experience in bringing large projects from requirements to functional spec, detailed design, unit testing, integration testing, final documentation, and deployment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Design and development knowledge of the following platforms is highly desirable:
OpenWave MX
OpenWave Directory
OpenWave RichMail
Message Systems Momentum
The successful candidate must be willing to act as an internal advocate for the products and solutions they develop. Such a candidate will be comfortable delivering presentations to senior management and product owners, as well as talking in front of groups at technical conferences and meetings.
The successful candidate will demonstrate mentoring and teaching skills, to help direct more junior members of the team, and provide overall technical direction.
A background in workings of the IETF or other Internet standards body would be beneficial
