About this job

The Sales Team Member is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of his/her shift, within company policy, with the over-all goal of serving customers according to the customer needs and thereby contributing to the profitability of their Sam's Mart site. The Sales Team Member is always responsible for safety, cleanliness, efficient operation during their shifts.

Summary of essential job functions:
Observes operating hours and shift assignments as assigned by the Site Manager including proper work time recording and unaided efficient use of the cash register system.
Provides customers with excellent service, prompt and courteous, according to their needs including listening attentively to their questions and being familiar with the store and all its product offerings.
Provides a fresh and inviting product offering to customers by keeping coolers, store shelves, beverage areas and displays clean, fronted and well stocked.
Maintains a safe, clean and secure environment for customers and employees including the outside area. This maintenance aspect of the job may include cleaning floors, shelves, counters, beverage distribution areas, bathrooms, petroleum distribution areas and all on-site areas where customers and/or employees have access.
Possesses ability to:
Read, understand, speak, hear (with aide) and write English at a basic eighth grade level to serve customers in geographic area and understand instructions on site machines and products.
Perform basic mathematical calculations to understand customer transactions, make change, account for monies and complete shift reports accurately.
Lift and carry merchandise, including cases of beverages which may weigh 25 pounds, to display/stocking areas including the beverage cooler.
Sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, clean outside areas which may include sloping areas, and lift and carry trash and/or containers to a disposal area.
Remain in cooler, stocking shelves, in temperatures as low as 32 degrees for as long as 30 minutes. The cooler may be seen as a confined space and personal mobility is a requirement.

Minimum requirements:
high school diploma (or General Education Diploma;
experience in retail preferred;
ability to communicate effectively in English;
proficiency in basic math;
reliable transportation;
basic interpersonal skills;
basic computer skills;
ability to move around entire site independently;
ability to move, lift and rotate merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds;
successful completion of the standard background check including criminal, and a drug test.
