The UnitedHealthcare Enterprise Risk Management  (ERM) team  is responsible for working with each of our businesses to identify significant risks to achieving the business strategy and to track the progress of mitigation activities associated with those risks. We report directly through UnitedHealthcare's finance organization with a dotted line to the UnitedHealth Group ERM lead.


 


In addition to working closely with our UnitedHealth Group partners, the ERM team partners with the Optum ERM teams as well as other risk assurance groups such  as Internal Audit and Information Risk Management to ensure that a comprehensive view of risk is developed.


 


The ERM Consultant plays a critical role in ensuring that key information is accurately gathered in our interview process by taking comprehensive notes.  This information is further analyzed by the ERM team to support the development of materials for executive management. This position is also responsible for ensuring information is appropriately documented and collected in our technology.


 


The ERM Consultant must be comfortable working with and building relationships with key leaders within UnitedHealthcare to improve our risk mitigation activities.


 


The ERM Consultant works under the direction of the UnitedHealthcare Director of Enterprise Risk Management and the ERM Manager.


 


Primary Responsibilities: 



  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify and assess areas of existing and emerging business risks/losses

  • Develop an understanding of business unit strategic goals and objectives

  • Support the assessment of the most significant risks to UnitedHealthcare and each of its operating segments

  • Work with risk owners to develop risk mitigation plans for each of the most significant risks

  • Follow up with risk owners to collect information to publish quarterly risk reports

  • Respond to regulatory agencies and others with certain risk information

  • Support the UnitedHealth Group ERM team and the UnitedHealthcare Risk and Controls Team as required

  • Identify areas of process improvement. Research, propose, and implement best practices

  • Conduct research and decision support related to special projects as needed

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, math, business or related field

  • 3 or more years post graduate experience

  • Good business acumen with the demonstrated ability to think both strategically and at a detailed level

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional listening skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Power Point, and Access

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience in risk and controls management

  • Experience in maintaining a SharePoint site

  • Experience in healthcare, consulting or internal audit
