JOB DESCRIPTION

We're currently seeking an AutoCad Layout Designer for a contract opportunity in Warminster, PA. This is a great opportunity to work with one of the world's leading suppliers of a wide range of products, solutions and services in the field of energy technology.

Daily Responsibilities Include:
  • In close association with the responsible design engineer, prepare work scope definition, design panel layout, schematic, and other required detailed drawings, and generate bills of material to satisfy requirements, conditions, and codes of assigned contracts.
  • Assist senior staff in design/drafting related functions and provide leadership and direction to less experienced design/drafting staff.
  • Produce drawings, bills of material, and tables, and schedules in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Coordinate activities with other groups.
  • Establish design criteria following standard practices, precedents and reference sources to accomplish design intent. Perform mathematical calculations (e.g. component [fuse, contactor, etc.] sizing, etc.), select components, prepare sketches, drawings and reference notes to support final contract drawings.
  • Provide advice and guidance to lead engineers and/or PMs regarding such factors as technical details, standards, quality and discovered problems or issues for assigned projects, attend meetings and provide technical advice, scheduling information, cost estimates and drawing/document control information.
  • Review drawings from suppliers and review drawings of other design personnel for conformance to customer specifications, approved practices, and standards and codes governing specific phases of work.
  • Independently resolve design problems, investigate non-conformances and recommend solutions.
  • Assemble, check, obtain approval and distribute contract drawing packages as established in task assignment details.
  • Interact with related groups as directed by contract instructions to obtain drawing approval, to transmit drawings, to generate requisitions, to test panels, etc. in fulfilling specified contract requirements.
  • Propose ways to increase effectiveness of design and drafting operations, such as introducing new technologies or modifying established practices and procedures.


COMPLEXITY OF TASKS
  • Requires thorough knowledge of electrical design, drafting and related practices to design and draft electrical single-line diagrams, control/operator/starter panel wiring diagrams, electrical loop diagrams, and panel layouts, and ensure quality of complex designs and compliance with customer requirements and codes.
  • Requires ability to recognize and resolve complex problems, communicate effectively, adapt to changes and select most effective methods of accomplishing tasks.
  • The candidate must be able to manage several fast paced and simultaneously running projects.
  • Requires ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Providing technical leadership and the ability to influence staff and customers is a plus.
  • Attention to detail is imperative.





Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or vocational design degree or a combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of recent and direct experience in:
    o Electrical control panel design; low voltage power distribution a plus.
    o Electrical controls design including integration of 460VAC and/or 575VAC VFDs and other drive systems into control solutions, PLC hardware integration.
    o Integrated system/control panel site test and troubleshooting.
    o Drafting using AutoCAD Electric, including generation of BOM, interconnect tables, custom reports.
    o ABB AC800M/S800 IO, AC700F/Freelance and/or Allen Bradley SLC/PLC-5, Control/CompactLogix controller and IO hardware knowledge a definite plus.
    o ABB and/or Allen Bradley drives hardware knowledge a definite plus.
    o Design leadership experience.
    o Project execution experience.
    o Strong organization and planning skills
    o Strong analytical and excellent communication skills
    o Willingness to travel up to 10%.
