Position Description:

Under the direction of the creative director, the art director is responsible for setting the design strategy, concepting, and creating various types of print and electronic marketing materials following Optum brand guidelines.   These marketing materials will be external-facing, Optum-branded, and will support Optum business-to-business sales efforts. 

The art director will be assigned to a specific business segment(s) Optum serves (corporate, employer, health plans, providers, governments, or life sciences) and work on projects initiated by our segment marketing partners.  The art director will collaborate on projects with other Marketing Services & Operations team members as part of a cross-functional “table.” Key relationships within the table include the integration (project) manager, copywriter, digital producer, and content marketer.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Works with creative director, integration manager and other designers on the creation of marketing materials including:  white papers, brochures, trade show banners, case studies, PowerPoint presentations, ads (print and digital), and web landing pages 
  • Participates in brainstorming sessions to develop creative concepts
  • Serves as a design expert who delivers both innovative design approaches as well as production level design work 
  • Collaborate with team of seasoned graphic designers
  • Ability to handle multi projects at the same time, under tight deadlines
  • Takes work from concept to final execution 
  • Concepts creative tests for A/B testing and uses data to optimize future creative 
  • Able to lead or mentor more junior designers




Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • 4+ years of professional design experience including business-to-business and print design 
  • 4+ years of experience in art direction and mentoring junior designers
  • Must be proficient in MAC systems, In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat  
  • MS Office Suites: PowerPoint (creating & editing presentation) and Word (documentation)
  • Ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity
  • Must have a work sample to provide
Preferred Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or communication design
Competencies for High Performers:
  • Knowledge of the printing processes and web graphics
  • Careful attention to detail a must
  • High level of organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to multi-task and follow-up when responses are needed
  • Strong creativity and design skills 
  • Excellent project-management 
  • Demonstrated ability to clarify, manage and prioritize several deliverables.
