The Product Development Engineer will establish and sustain relationships with key material suppliers, machine builders and other resources within the industry. This individual will design unique and innovative products and related processes that provide positive outcomes for end users. The successful candidate will be able to search and interpret intellectual property and develop designs that can be protected through patents, trademarks or other intellectual property techniques.

Job Duties also include:

Assumes a leadership role directing activities related to disposable absorbent hygiene product innovations and the manufacturing implications related to new product designs.

Specifies and designs new material variants and incorporates into new product formulae.

Oversees product/machine trials and works with operations personnel to ensure manufacturability during product development.

Works with vendors and internal QA to determine performance impact of new materials and designs, providing empirical data needed for marketing and manufacturing decision making.

Provides complete product design solutions to support the immediate, mid-term, and long-term innovation and product design strategies.

Qualification

The required skills for this position are:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related discipline.

A demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple projects with positive results and a bias for action.

Ability to measure, perform testing functions, interpret & perform test procedures, operate testing equipment and create/document test procedures.

Problem solving and analysis skills – with a keen ability to make comparative analysis and check results against empirical knowledge. Experience in SPC, DOE and Lean principles.

Experience in nonwovens and design of absorbent products is desirable.

Familiarity with inspection camera systems and related software.

Knowledge of data acquisition software such as GE Proficy, Rockwell VantagePoint, and capability to use Minitab to perform analysis of test data.

Must be a self-starter, and demonstrate an interest in taking the lead on projects.
