Manager of Professional Services – Executive Consulting / Retail Vertical

The global Professional Services (PS) organization provides consulting, design, implementation, and management to Verizon’s Enterprise, Medium Business, and Government customers.  We are currently looking for a Manager of Professional Services to be aligned with Verizon’s Retail vertical.  The PS Manager will be responsible for driving the PS revenue assigned to the Retail market to include but not limited to food, beverage, hospitality, apparel/footwear, warehouse, automotive, big-box stores, discounters, boutiques and e-commerce.  The goal of the PS Manager is to drive increased revenue within the Verizon’s PS Organization in the following areas:  Mobility, Cloud, Big Data, Security and Managed Application Solutions among others.  The PS Manager will oversee a team of Executive Consulting Partners (ECP) to ensure Verizon’s business strategies for its top global retailer accounts are aligned to the solutions and product sets provided by Verizon. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with direct reports to provide guidance to find strategic solutions to meet the customer’s strategic business initiatives.  Works with team to ensure that the team has identified and proposed specific strategies, initiatives and remedies necessary to align technology infrastructure with corporate objectives.  Consistent evaluation of team’s effectiveness to deliver concise and effective messaging surrounding specific solutions is required.
  • Ensure that this team translates customer business issues/opportunities into technical solution/business requirements through a consultative approach with customer’s business units to gain deeper understanding of business unit requirements and their business value to the organization. Through this alignment a map of conceptual design, transition plan, and technology to address business unit requirements will be developed by this team.
  • Ensures effective linkage between client, account team and support channels within the Professional Services team. This manager must develop a method for their assigned team to carry out proper follow-up with customers, account teams, sales managers, directors, and vice presidents. Frequent and consistent communication between direct reports, Directors, assigned account teams, and branch management is required.
  • Effectively manages communication and administrative activities through the delivery of high quality and informative content for reports, deals, or specific updates requested by management. This manager must work with their direct reports to ensure all content is accurate, articulate, and concise.
  • Provides direction, guidance and creative thought to the Executive Consulting Partner on how they should develop and align strategic account plans to client’s strategic initiative and guidance on the approach to clients and account teams when driving new revenue.  Value should be added to a custom deal or a customer proposal by identifying areas not documented or discussed previously. This resource must challenge their team members to think creatively and should work with team members to develop their own leadership qualities.
  • Provides direction on developing self-improvement for assigned team members. Development of self-improvement is also consistently expected of the PS Manager.  Continued expansion of strategic product discipline to further understand the industry is required. A specific training plan for each member of the Executive Consulting Partner team should be established as well as a self-directed plan should be developed. All internal or external courses that would be needed to expand job skills should be indicated.
  • Able to accept escalations from team members, help resolve issues (first hand) and direct staff on how to handle situations better in the future. Providing coverage for large and/or complex engagements is very critical to this job function.
  • Ensure proper coverage / participation of the Senior Leadership Team in the Client facing Governance Program is completed. 
  • Lead strategic architectural planning for Cloud, Data Center, Big Data, Security and Managed Applications to achieve goals by prioritizing initiatives and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future solutions with the PS Organization. 
  • Position Verizon PS as a key differentiator to assist in clients transformation efforts.
  • Ensure the team has the proper resources to provide ROI / TCO / Business Case justification to assist these clients in the evaluations to the solutions presented. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science related discipline or equivalent work experience.  Masters or level education desired.
  • 7+ years’ experience providing managed IT and/or Telecom consulting services to enterprise clients (Public and/or Private).  A minimum of 3 years’ experience as manager of direct reports (or) Experience in a leadership role responsible for  solutions development, solutions selling, and/or strategic engagement.
  • 7+ years’ experience in the following:
    • A customer/client facing technical role (Consulting, Solutions Sales, Architecture, etc.).
    • Consulting for large scale complex, multi-departmental solutions that impact customer’s core business values.
    • Architecture -conceptualization, definition and development of IT and or telecom based products and service.
    • Demonstrated and verifiable track record of prior successful customer engagements. Examples of successful multi-tower implementations.  Success should be demonstrated through working with partners and internal resources on designs, statements of work and/or technical project plans showing a unified approach to customer is required.
  • Proven experience and ability to successfully engage clients and manage relationships at the CxO Level.
  • Direct experience working with or for a Retail organization (food, beverage, hospitality, apparel/footwear, warehouse, automotive, big-box stores, discounters, boutiques and e-commerce) in strategic leadership role focusing on technological innovation and IT infrastructure as it relates to the line of business.
  • Knowledge of the current retail industry’s technical infrastructure, system, and application needs.
  • In-depth knowledge in at least (2) technologies with a general knowledge in the following:
    • Networking
    • Unified Communications
    • Mobility
    • Cloud
    • Security
    • Business Intelligence & Big Data:   Analytics, products, tools, techniques, trends and best practices. 
    • IT Applications Management
  • Leading industry certifications in one or more of the following technology areas is highly desired… Cloud, Mobility, Security, Big Data, or Managed Applications
  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations.  Industry certifications in the following functions are highly desired:
    • Architecture:  TOGAF
    • Service Delivery/Governance:  ITILv2/3
  • Strong technical expertise should be complimented by appropriate vendor certifications, as well as the ability to Recommend, Design, Price and provide customer deliverables.
  • Experience preparing customer-facing material such as RFP responses, proactive proposals and solution designs.
  • Strong financial analysis experience (P&L, ROI, cost analysis, business case development, etc)
  • Experience in sales or service of Fortune 500 companies highly desired.
  • Successful project delivery in a Fortune 100 company highly desired.
  • “Big 5" consulting experience highly desired.
  • Strong knowledge of M.S. Office applications and Share Point
  • Strong communication skills in verbal and written to deliver customer presentations aimed at aligning technical solutions with business value.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects across various organizations and global regions
  • Success leading team members to achieve targeted performance objectives
  • Effective leadership skills mentoring  resources and building a high-performance team
