The Package Engineering Intern impacts the organization and UPS Customer Solutions by evaluating and providing protective packaging solutions for UPS customers to help ensure the safe transport of the customers’ goods through the distribution environment. Packaging solutions are developed to prevent damages, reduce existing damages, help develop new business, protect existing business, and optimize cube and cost of packaging.
Other Duties- Log Incoming Packages on a daily basis
- Interface with internal and external customers
- Test package/material and contract compliance
- Execute test per specified test plan(s)
- Package performance evaluation and redesign
- Documentation of test data
- Design and make prototype samples of packaging solutions
- Interface with key stakeholders in developing packaging solutions for customers
- Assist with research and development projects
- Ensure compliance with Package Lab Operations Manual
- Communicate with key stakeholders prior to testing to completely understand customers’ needs, testing objective and/or business needs
- Ensure that the test package/material is in compliance along with the test agreement and ensure the customers’ understanding of terms and conditions of agreement
- Assist customers in understanding packaging deficiencies, package performance requirements and design improvement opportunities
- Support key stakeholders in preventing/reducing damages and/or developing/protecting UPS volume
- Support and help grow the business plan
- Provide information collateral and phone support to key stakeholders
- Conduct testing in accordance with appropriate ISTA, ASTM or TAPPI standard
- Evaluate performance of packaging based on test results
- Provide technical lab report including test protocol, detailed analysis of testing results, package performance observations, and design improvement recommendations where applicable
- Communicate results and recommendations to key stakeholders
- Assist key stakeholders for problem resolution of customer unique packaging needs
- Assist Engineering Specialists with research and development projects
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) or equivalent software is preferred
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, analytical and computer skills
