DISH’s Manufacturing team ensures the high quality condition of millions of satellite receivers and remote controls.  State-of-the-art facilities in El Paso, TX, Spartanburg, SC, and Englewood, CO, use advanced diagnostic tools and automated equipment to test, refurbish and redistribute hardware to customers.

A successful Director of Manufacturing will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in an Engineering or Business discipline and 7+ years related work experience, including 5+ years supervisory or management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  MBA or Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • Conversational Spanish required; Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
  • Six Sigma or Lean qualifications with demonstrated implementation experience; OSHA, APEX, OCPIM, Workers Comp and EEO experience preferred
  • Manufacturing and warehouse experience; Hardware/software testing experience or exposure a plus
  • Demonstrated experience as a change agent with ability to influence and communicate at all levels in the organization
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with all levels of employees as well as executive leadership
  • Excellent technical, conceptual, and financial skills
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals and recognize success appropriately

 

 

The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for the receiving, production and warehouse operations of the El Paso, TX service center with a staff of approximately 900 individuals and a $22M annual payroll, processing 3.3M returned units per year in a 3 shift operation.  The Director will accomplish this with a lean exempt staff of approximately 48 heads and requires partnering with manufacturing engineering, test engineering, maintenance and the Spartanburg, SC location on continual improvement efforts and realization of planned process improvement activities. This role has a very high degree of responsibility and visibility to Executive Leadership with a solid career path.

 

Primary responsibilities fall in the following categories:

 

  • Responsible for meeting production commitments at required labor efficiencies while keeping material cost per unit within budget. 
  • Expected to meet fulfillment requirements to the sales organization and distribution pack out locations.   Outputted product should meet or exceed required quality levels both functionally and aesthetically. 
  • Management of the internal quality control organization and process to assure quality levels. 
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding OSHA safety requirements and managing the safety results of the operations in terms of the workers compensation incident rate and the associated expense on claims related to safety. 
  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and development of staff to support the operation and minimizing the turnover rate of existing staff. 
  • Ensuring acceptable inventory accuracy is maintained through the cycle count program and physical inventory processes for both on-site and off-site stored material.  Total stored inventory is expected to surpass 500K units in 2014. 
  • Additionally responsible for the facility security and maintenance teams and activities associated with the facility and machinery supporting its operation.
