Job Description:

The UPS Capital Intermediate Business Systems Analyst (BSA) acts as a liaison between the Information Technology
(IT) department and our internal clients. This position collects, analyzes, reviews, documents, and communicates business needs and requirements. He/She interacts with clients to assess their needs and looks for opportunities to develop and grow the business through effective use of technology. The UPSC Intermediate Business Systems Analyst collaborates with IT professionals to determine whether solutions currently exist (internally or externally) or whether new solutions are feasible. He/She determines how such solutions will impact existing work processes and systems and how to manage the integration. This position researches and facilitates the evaluation of "buy versus build" decisions. He/She designs, develops, and links requirements to the application. The UPSC Intermediate Business Systems Analyst designs user documentation and supports development of test cases for system testing. This position works with business partners across multiple business functions to align technology solutions with business strategies.

Knowledge and Experience:

The Intermediate BSA should have a minimum of 3 to 5+ years of experience in business analysis and in creating business analysis work products (e.g.,business requirements, functional requirements, use cases, GUI visualizations).  The Intermediate BSA should be familiar with the systems development lifecycle.  Strong analytic, problem solving, communication, presentation and negotiation skills are necessary.  The Intermediate BSA must understand the business and technology goals and objectives of a project, understand business processes and have the ability to elicit and recognize business problems to be solved or opportunities to be capitalized on.

Responsibilities:

  • Eliciting, analyzing and communicating business needs
  • Identify solutions to business problems
  • Creating and managing detailed, clear written business and functional requirements for projects of medium to high complexity or on one or more cross-functional projects with internal development staff and external software development vendors
  • Gaining project stakeholder acceptance of documented requirements and proposed solution
  • Working independently or as part of a team with guidance from a Lead Business Systems Analyst or Project Leader and adhering to established standards and procedures
  • Participating in reviews of developer, architect and quality assurance deliverables to ensure alignment with documented requirements
  • Capturing, writing and communicating accurate meeting minutes
  • Identifying, addressing, negotiating, recording, reporting, managing and escalating action items, risks and issues associated to the project
  • Interacting with a wide variety of staff and vendors including business users, applications developers, architects, other business analysts, and external software vendors 
  • Work as first line of support for vendor related applications and internal systems
  • Coordinate application upgrades and testing
  • Participates in system integration testing of operating systems, system utilities, and new software and hardware technologies to ensure testing scenarios are validated.
  • Works with technical team to install and configure operating systems, major subsystems, new software releases, system upgrades, and patches to support hardware products.
