Medical assistants perform a variety of patient care duties including, but not limited to: * Directing and/or accompanying patients to examination rooms. * Preparing patients for visit by providing them with examination gowns/drapes. * Preparing and arranging examination instruments, supplies, and equipment. * Verifying patient information with the patient, reviewing and recording medical history, obtaining and documenting vital signs, and confirming purpose of visit/treatment. * Supporting patient care by assisting the physician or health care provider during examination. * Preparing laboratory specimens and performing basic laboratory tests. * Drawing blood for further testing. * Taking electrocardiograms. * Removing sutures and/or changing dressings. * Explaining treatment procedures to patients. * Educating patients about medications and special diet information as well as answering any questions. * Preparing and administering medications and authorizing prescription refills as directed by a physician. * Maintaining patient confidence and protecting operations by keeping patient care information confidential in accordance to HIPAA. * Serving and protecting the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards. Preferred qualifications: * Completion of a medical assistant program from an accredited educational institution. * Completion of a medical assistant intern/externship. * Credentials as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is a plus! * Previous experience with electronic medical records (EMRs) and/or electronic health records (EHRs).
