The Time Warner Cable Corporate office currently seeks a Senior Engineer for our Video Infrastructure and Architecture Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.


Essential Job Functions:
This engineering position is responsible for integrating, testing and qualifying system/network components for video acquisition, processing and transport in a multi-screen video delivery environment.

The primary functions for this position includes testing end-to-end video solution; evaluating new technologies and products; documenting engineering standards and configuration guides for Operations and Deployment teams, developing reports from test efforts. Creating, maintaining, and performing test plans; completing testing and system readiness for hand-off to Operations and Deployment team, working jointly with the rest of the Network Engineering, Architecture & Technology organization and more broadly within the Technology & Network Operations departments to identify issues and to resolve issues.

Duties include configuration, integration, support, testing, troubleshooting and trouble resolution on various equipment, as well as support of video acquisition and IP networks in the Time Warner Cable ATG development and test labs.

Successful candidate must be able to work well in a collaborative, team-based environment.


Job Requirements:

Responsibilities include integrating, testing and evaluation of computer systems with the following focus:


- Maintain and administer UNIX-based & Windows-based computer networks including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.

- Basic experience with performance tuning, package installation, patch management updates, network and server management issues.

- Basic knowledge of troubleshooting tools (i.e tcpdump, netstat, iostat, traceroute, and snoop)

- Basic experience with System monitoring applications

- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN topology, network protocols switches and firewalls

- Scripting experience in at least one language (Ruby, Python, Shell)

- Deploys/upgrades storage and virtualization solutions (VMWare, Open Stack)

- Knowledge of blade server platforms (Cisco, Hitachi, HP)

- In depth knowledge of storage architectures (NFS, SAN) and the ability to deploy/manage these in a lab environment.

- Basic understanding of Web Service Management (Apache, IIS, etc.)

While the above represents, the base knowledge required to fulfill this role, experience working in a video engineering environment is considered a plus. Knowledge of the following is not mandatory, but would certainly be considered helpful:


- Knowledge of CDN and video packagers for ABR delivery.

- Knowledge of video and Audio CODECS (MPEG2, MPEG4, HEVC, Dolby, and AAC Audio).

- Understanding of HTTP traffic and protocols for video delivery and the trouble shooting HTTP communications.

Also responsible for developing comprehensive reports of test efforts; creating, maintaining and performing test plans; completing testing and system readiness for hand-off to Operations and Deployment team; troubleshooting basic cable system issues; troubleshooting TWC application issues on vendor devices; tracking and managing vendor bug lists; developing weekly status reports; providing technical customer support to deployment teams with a positive, courteous, and professional tone; working jointly with the rest of the Network Engineering, Architecture & Technology organization and more broadly within the Technology & Network Operations division to identify issues and to resolve issues.

Extended and flexible work schedule is a requirement of the job.

Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and strong collaboration skills.

Candidate must be willing to work in a dynamic environment requiring adaptability, and excellent problem solving skills.

Candidate must have strong organizational skills, be a self-starter and demonstrate initiative

Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five years of experience with a network service provider (preferably an MSO), with experience supporting test systems and experience working in network labs.

Experience troubleshooting complex systems using test tools, network management systems and error reporting systems to determine and resolve problems.

Knowledge of video CODECs and formats including MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, HVEC, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, Apple HTTP Live Streaming, etc.

Knowledge of CDN/Origin Servers and video packagers for ABR delivery.

Knowledge of video and Audio CODECS (MPEG2, MPEG4, HEVC, Dolby, and AAC Audio).

Understanding of HTTP traffic and protocols for video delivery and the trouble-shooting of HTTP communications.


Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and to demonstrate good logical problem assessment and solving skills.

Ability to handle several tasks, organize, document, make decisions, and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.


Education and Experience:
Bachelor ' s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent training, education and experience.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:
No Supervisory responsibilities with this position.
