Summary
The Manager, Industrial Engineer role must strive to establish a strong culture of continuous process improvement that supports the overall objectives of the organization, particularly those initiated within Supply Chain and Logistics. Manage, coach and develop the professional acumen of each Distribution Center Industrial Engineer. Identify, execute, and evaluate the effectiveness of cross-functional projects that promote process standardization, optimal performance management, and the effective utilization of space throughout all Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores Distribution Centers nationwide. Oversee the setup and maintenance portion of the warehouse management system that tracks labor performance. Research and evaluate the use of any prospective new technologies that are designed to improve the overall productivity or space utilization at all Distribution Centers in the supply chain network.

Scope
  • Establish and maintain Best Methods (Standard Operating Procedures) for all job functions.
  • Development and maintenance of an accurate and effective Work Measurement System; Ensures effective productivity measurements are established for identified functions in the distribution centers through time studies and frequency studies conducted in the facilities.
  • Evaluation and subsequent revision of all work methods and workflow for all functions to ensure they are ergonomically correct.
  • Training of management and hourly workforce on productivity and work methods.
  • Analysis, recommendation, and implementation of enhancements to existing work methods flows and processes to increase throughput.
  • Influence the development and design distribution center layouts.
  • Analysis and cost justification on all capital project requests.
  • Design, selection and installation of material handling equipment incorporated into existing, new and expanded distribution centers.
  • Work with internal and external parties to ensure collaborative partnerships meet business requirements.
  • Manage and execute joint projects with each Distribution Center Industrial Engineer to improve efficiency and capacity including: Projects using standards or expectations. Rack, module, sorter or conveyor implementations. Radio Frequency, Voice Selection and other projects integrating processes, people, systems and hardware - Layout evaluation and long-term space design/utilization.
  • Provide expertise and training to each Distribution Center for developing standards/expectations and appropriate reports for tracking team member performance. Maintain/Setup the Warehouse Management System to track and report standards and/or expectations. Assist each Distribution Center with establishing standards and/or expectations.
  • Develop processes and systems to track and benchmark the efficiencies of all Distribution Centers. Comparison between the distribution Centers. Comparison to other Retailers and Distributors. Best Practices from other companies.
  • Defining building requirements and layout.
  • Develop/Maintain internal CAD drawings of each facility and related office space. Each Distribution Center. Third Party facilities as necessary.


Education Requirements
  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree - industrial or mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Preferred: Work experience in logistics including importing, transportation management, and warehouse management Systems, supply chain planning systems, and network design mod.


Experience
  • Minimum: 5 years of experience - DC/process/logistics/supply chain or store experience in a retail environment.
  • Preferred: Work experience in logistics including importing, transportation management, warehouse management systems, supply chain planning systems, and network design mod.


Other Skills
  • Experience in EXE and SAP R/3 IS Retail / RIS.
