The Manager, Innovation is focused on our future and develops our product/solution concepts based on a deep understanding of the needs of end-users that purchase our products. This position develops the concept idea and works with the brand, product and channel teams to determine where the innovation should be placed to maximize the sales and profits for PPG.

Responsibilities include:

  • Concept development and validation

  • Owns the development & sequencing of the innovation pipeline concepts

  • Prepares and presents to the business leadership the best innovation concepts and supporting business case to gain approval and investment

  • Cultivates an organizational environment that encourages innovation as a core business competency

  • Works with brand/channel teams to select best launch opportunity to maximize sales and profits

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Lead the development and qualification of the innovation product roadmap for all of North America. Roadmaps are developed by brand and by channel to ensure that the product concepts are consistent with brand position and channel strategy.

Translate unmet needs of the end-user into winning product ideas, working with the Insight team to qualify concepts with end-users.

Engage end-users across the spectrum of our target market segments of residential repaint, commercial maintenance and new construction, multifamily and new home construction to insure a balanced innovation pipeline to grow in all segments.

Leverage all sources of innovation opportunities to include the PPG Global Architectural businesses, raw material vendor community, employees, customers and end users to insure the widest view of potential concepts.

Effectively manage the innovation annual budget to maximize the efficiency of concept development and learning plans.

Lead innovation work sessions with all major customers to ensure buy-in and commitment to the innovation roadmap.

In collaboration with the Product management team and R & D, develop products that deliver against winning concepts.

Model behavior that integrates the brand, channel and product teams to ensure excellent collaboration and represents the best interest of PPG across North America.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or business related field is required, an advanced marketing degree or MBA is a plus .
  • The successful candidate must have thorough knowledge in the areas of end-user and be able to lead innovation work sessions with customers ensuring buy-in and commitment to the innovation roadmap.
  • 10 years of prior Marketing experience in an innovation role focusing on the future and new products/concepts for the marketplace that meet end-user needs; comprehensive knowledge of industry, brand strategies, competitive products, and channels.
  • Excellent analytical, financial and budget management abilities are critical.
  • Ability to lead through leaders, excellent communication, presentation, persuasion and leadership skills, ability to work effectively in a highly matrix, fast-paced, complex and often stressful environment.
  • Ability to navigate a highly matrix organization.
