POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Leadership Development Director and the High Flight Chief Instructor and in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The High Flight Assistant Instructor will be responsible for providing guidance, instruction and leadership to instructional classes and teen events. This position will play a key role in developing and executing the curriculum of the High Flight Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides leadership, instruction and development of all teen events and trips. This includes ensuring proper participant supervision, communication with members and other staff and implementing appropriate coaching/teaching techniques as it relates to the curriculum.

2. Operates and maintains clean, safe program and facility areas to ensure a safe working environment for all participants and staff.

3. Participates in other YMCA activities when appropriate.

4. Meets and communicates with Leadership Development Director and High Flight Chief Instructor as necessary, especially regarding schedule in other departments.

5. Ensures a positive working and program environment emphasizing all YMCA initiatives.

6. To understand the use, operation and organization of the High Flight related equipment.

7. Maintains all certifications and training hours necessary for the position.

8. Performs other duties and responsibilities that relate to the Asst. Instructor Position.

9. Responsible for building healthy positive relationships with staff and members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Degree in youth work, human services teaching and/or related experience preferred, but not required.
2. Direct experience in teaching and supervising various outdoor adventure skills preferred with a strong background in leadership and coaching.
3. Must possess a valid MA driver's license
4. Must possess current CPR and First Aid certifications.
5. Bilingual candidate a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. He / or She must be physically capable to set up program equipment and have the ability to hear and see activities and problems as they occur.
2. Able to safely and competently physically operate and facilitate in remote areas in varying environmental conditions year round.
3. Ability to lift/support up to 30lbs in program environments
4. Ability to operate a climbing wall and/or ropes course element
