Summary of Position:
  • Give direction and manage the Store Planning process as it relates to developing fixture/merchandise plans for new Dollar Tree and Deals Stores, Re-models, Cap Ex projects,

  • Freezer/Cooler projects and 5 th Corner/Home Store initiatives which reflect the latest fixture and merchandising concepts, department adjacencies, merchandise category flow and space allocation, Deals planogram footages and Urban Store concepts in support of the Company’s strategic sales goals and objectives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Direct and manage the development of all fixture/merchandise plans for new Dollar Tree and Deals stores as it relates to fixture layout, merchandise category flow, category space allocation and fixture buyout requirements in support of the new store opening schedule.
  • Give direction and manage the development of the Deals and Deals by Dollar Tree New Store prototypes to include fixture layouts, department adjacencies, merchandise category flow and space allocation, and planogram footage requirements based on strategic merchandising standards unique to Deals stores.
  • Create metrics for analysis and approve the merchandise space allocation and category flow for all new stores and re-model store projects based on the category lineal footage space allocation for average, consumable and variety stores. Final category space allocation to be determined by total store lineal footage and sales percent contribution by merchandise category.
  • Facilitate the communication process between Store Planning and Planning and Allocation for new stores with regard to Deals and Home Store category merchandising and space allocation based on store specific merchandise assortments.
  • Direct and manage development of new merchandising initiatives (re: 5 th Corner and Home Store) reflective in new stores and re-model fixture/merchandise plans including category space allocation, merchandise category flow and lineal footage requirements based on store size.


  • Develop, manage and communicate the execution of the fiscal multi-million dollar Cap Ex project initiatives in conjunction with Store Operations and Construction as part of the Store Planning process.
  • Develop and maintain cross functional relationships with areas of related responsibility to include

  • Merchandising, Store Operations, Design and Construction, Real Estate, Legal, Planning and Allocation in support of the Store Planning process and strategic Company goals and objectives.
  • Direct the creation and give final approval for all sales floor block outs of new stores to be reflective of new store design elements that ensure all store layouts meet operational and merchandising objectives as part of the Store Planning process.


  • Supervise a Team of three Store Planning Analysts.
  • Direct the new store opening process as it relates to new store sales floor square footage and merchandise category space allocation based on store type of average, consumable and variety in support of the new store sales productivity goal of $150 per square foot.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • 4 year College Degree in Business Management or related field preferred. Will consider relevant work experience.

  • Minimum 7 years Retail Management experience in the areas of Store Planning, Space Management and Visual Merchandising combined with a Stores Operations background.


  • Minimun of 3-5 years of experience managing Floor Planning Team in a retail environment

  • Highly developed planning, organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication, inter-personal, supervisory, and Team building skills.

  • Demonstrated understanding of store layout/design, fixture development, and merchandise space allocation as part of the Store Planning process.

  • Ability to direct and manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated expert proficiency with Auto Cad in the development of fixture andmerchandise plans as part of the Store Planning process.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and incorporate merchandising concepts into store layouts and designs.

  • Basic understanding and knowledge of planogram development.

  • Retail management experience with a national multi-unit Retailer.
