About this job

The Sr. QA Engineering Technician troubleshoots failed receivers and accessories to identify and repair QA inspection test failures down to a subassembly level.

EDUCATION

Associate’s Degree related to Electronics, or similar coursework at a trade/technical school, and five plus years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

EXPERIENCE

Experience includes thorough knowledge of inspection and assembly practices and procedures. Experience includes electronic/mechanical inspection experience, and a thorough knowledge of assembly practices and procedures.  Employees must be proficient in the use of measuring tools including calipers, voltmeters, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.

 

SKILLS

Data entry skills.  Typing 20 wpm.  Able to write reports/correspondence/procedure manuals, and present information and respond to questions from managers/customers/general public.  Must be observant and very good at paying attention to detail. You will also need to be patient as some tests are complex and take a long time to complete.  You should have a logical, methodical approach to your work and you must be accurate when taking measurements and recording figures.  Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Consistenly works on complex assignments requiring a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.  Makes recommendations for new procedures.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

DIRECTION RECEIVED

Requires some supervision from Engineer to direct tasks and ensure completion.

 

REPORTS TOQA Engineer or above.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

  • Responsible for inspecting quality of work produced on machines, lines served or incoming from suppliers.
  • Inspect products for workmanship, dimensional specs, tolerances and usability from a functional standpoint.
  • Reads complex blueprints and diagrams using judgment and discretion in determining the workability of the assemblies and sub-assemblies inspected. 
  • May do layout work to check units and subsequent operations.
  • Ability to collect and organize inspection data into report format presentable to management and requesting organizations.
  • Computer literate. Prepares written reports for in-process inspection and may make recommendations for procedural changes.
  • Performs special projects as needed by Engineering and Global Manufacturing.
  • Perform first article inspections including, but not limited to, mechanical, artwork, and cosmetic.
  • Compiles failure information and distributes failure report to Leads, Supervisor, and Manager.
  • Use tools and equipment in the performance of inspections such as calipers, micrometers,  etc.
  • Assist in the maintenance of all equipment.
  • Perform testing using tools such as drop arms, vibration tables, temperature chambers, etc.
  • Has working knowledge of ESD practices.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Works independently.
