What is my job:

The job of the Knowledge Based Service Seller is to provide Wegmans' customers with samplings of delicious foods, sharing knowledge about products and ideas for preparation. Working with departments throughout the store to drive sales by creating interest and enthusiasm for the products, while providing the incredible customer service Wegmans prides itself on.

How do I make a difference?

Providing incredible, knowledge based customer service

• Proactively acknowledging customers and inviting them to try products; answering any questions they may have and offering suggestions for recipes and preparation
• Providing incredible customer service by enthusiastically sharing knowledge about the products being created and introducing ideas for new ways to enjoy items and demonstrating to customers how to replicate techniques for their at-home success
• Demonstrating and teaching customers cooking techniques through approved seasonal menus
• Following Wegmans core recipes and cooking techniques when preparing food, handling products and using equipment in accordance with food safety and safety guidelines, as well as following Wegmans policies for preparing and sampling food

Ensuring high quality products and ingredients

• Assisting departments in driving sales by bringing their products to life for customers, showcasing items being promoted in well-merchandised, eye-appealing and enticing displays while creating customer enthusiasm for products

Continuously improving results

• Accurately keeping track of products used during preparation and sampling, being sure to communicate this information with appropriate departments and correctly recording shrink
• Coordinating the ordering of meal components with appropriate Department Managers
• Reviewing communication from Merchandising Office and newsletters relevant to featured recipe or product

• Utilize resources to educate self and others about product uses and characteristics, being sure to share acquired product knowledge
• Learn, use and be able to explain Wegmans sanctioned cooking techniques to assist customers for their success at home
What skills, learnings, and experiences are preferred and will set me apart? • Passion for food and beverages
• Customer service experience, preferably in a produce or perishable department setting


Work environment:

• Work involves continuous interaction with customers in a fast-paced environment
• Typical motions include repetitive hand and arm movements, bending and reaching
• Responsible for moving and lifting an average of 1 – 5 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 35 pounds rarely
• May be exposed to various allergens
• Work requires the safe and proper handling of common cooking utensils and counter-top cooking equipment
• Will spend the majority of time on his or her feet and stand without a break for up to 4 hours
