Staff Accountant

General Description

The Staff Accountant, under direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, performs a wide variety of accounting tasks. The Staff Accountant assists the CFO with financial analyses of operations, including interim and year-end financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management, the Board of Directors, and the Audit Committee. The Staff Accountant assists in the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves general accounting, project accounting, internal controls and auditing, and budgetary controls. This position is characterized by a high degree of initiative and creativity, responsibility, accountability, and ability to work congenially with a wide variety of individuals, inside and outside of the organization.

Essential Functions


Keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.

Prepares monthly financial statements with supporting schedules.

Assists in the coordination and preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, construction

project proformas, and construction analysis reports, institutes and maintains other planning and

control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances.

Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes

external reports as necessary.

Shares responsibility of the development and maintenance of an Accounting Procedures Manual.

Management of accounts payable and accounts receivable including investigation of exceptions and

identification of process improvement opportunities.

Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements of various partnerships

Assisting other members in the accounting department, and project managers, on development

projects as needed.


Knowledge & Experience:


Ability to work with others in establishing and meeting goals and objectives

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Skilled in organizing time and prioritizing work load.

Ability to deliver key results and meet deadlines

Ability to start work with minimal direction

Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in a process and make adjustments

Excellent analytical skills

Good working knowledge of computers, including expertise in manipulating spreadsheets


Education:


BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major OR

Government/Non-Profit experience OR

2+ years of experience in financial management, real estate development, property management, or

construction management including cost accounting OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience


Equipment and Software:


Computer with Internet and email capabilities

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Google Apps products (email, calendar, docs, etc.)


Licenses/Certification:


CPA certification preferred, but not required

Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance required
