The Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting progressive safety initiatives to align with our vision to be a friend to the ocean, to preserve our environment and protect the health and safety of our Team Members by creating a positive safety culture.

The awesome addition to our Restaurant Support Center Operations team will be responsible for:

Acting as the liaison between Rubio's store Team Members and the Safety Department to ensure an immediate and direct line of communication.
Reviewing and compiling incoming reports of injuries and ensures completeness of investigation findings including updating claim systems and weekly reports for accurate distribution of loss information.
Working closely with the Safety Manager and Claims Specialist to evaluate the effectiveness of existing hazard controls, policies, and procedures and recommending changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries.
Managing the Certificate of Insurance system to track vendor compliance with contract insurance requirements.
Attending and participating in Rubio's Safety Committee meetings in addition to sharing meeting information with participants and/or other decision-makers related to safety activities.
Overseeing and monitoring the completion of the Rubio's Safety Incentive Program requirements. Provides timely and accurate reporting of the program and oversees the distribution and communication of rewards.
Collaborating with Team Members, Management, and other departments on ways to implement workplace safety initiatives.
Monitoring the completion of Manager in Training and Behavior Based Safety training by Rubio's Team Members and including scheduling, tracking attendance, learning materials and related communication.
Assisting with onsite safety event logistics (e.g., securing a room, arranging for A/V equipment, arranging payment, catering, etc.)
Monitoring safety program blog and communicates new messages, announcements and/or promotional materials at all sites.

Additional Requirements

Education: The successful candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent experience.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of safety and occupational health experience or minimum 2 years of restaurant experience.

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of processes, systems and other best practices in the restaurant industry. ?

Language Skills: Excellent written skills required; strong oral/communication and presentation skills. Bi-lingual English/Spanish not required, but is a plus.

Skills: Highly literate in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with Final Cut Pro a plus! Ability to communicate and relate to all levels of management, operations, corporate departments as well as Guests and vendors.
Abilities: Ability to work in a team environment, promoting cross-functional collaboration in order to create a world-class safety program. Ability to demonstrate a high level of self-discipline and drive. Requires working closely with co-workers and Team Members for long periods of time. Ability to provide organizational leadership and foster a team environment. Ability to masterfully handle multiple priorities.

Will typically function in an office environment, however 5% travel is necessary.
